New Preventing and Addressing Racism in Schools Policy

The Department has introduced a new policy in direct response to recommendations outlined in the Commission for Children and Young People’s Let Us Learn report,
A key recommendation of the report was the development of a dedicated policy to address racism within Victorian government schools. The new Preventing and Addressing Racism in Schools policy is now available on the Policy and Advisory Library (PAL).
This policy builds on existing obligations under the Child Safe Standards, which require schools to foster culturally safe environments, and complements the Managing and Reporting School Incidents policy, which outlines procedures for responding to and reporting incidents of racism.
Comprehensive guidance has been developed to support the implementation of the new policy, along with a suite of resources to assist schools in embedding its principles and practices into their everyday operations.
