Foundation/Grade 1

Maths

The Foundation students have started their unit of shape, focusing on 2D shapes. Finding different shapes within the classroom (circles, rectangles & triangles).

Last week the Grade 1 students started their unit on measurement, focusing on length, mass & capacity. One activity involved using paper strips to compare the length of different classroom objects. They had to focusing on starting the objects at the same end of the paper strip then mark the length using different coloured pencils. They then shared their findings, explaining which objects they measured, and which object was longer/shorter. Another activity focused on using their hands to feel with items were heavier/lighter (hefting).

Reconciliation Week

Across the week students have been exposed to the text Come Together Again by Isaiah Firebrace. The text looks at the cultural importance around song and dance. Students also listened to music by Aboriginal musicians like Isaiah Firebrace, Troy Cassar-Daley and Jessica Mauboy.

Grade 2

Religion

We are consolidating our Pentecost Unit with lots of insightful and engaging topics.  "Pentecost is a special day in the Church when we remember how the Holy Spirit came to Jesus’ friends, the disciples. It happened 50 days after Easter. On that day, the disciples were all together when a strong wind blew and little flames appeared above their heads. The Holy Spirit helped them feel brave and filled with love, so they could go and share Jesus’ message with others. Pentecost is often called the birthday of the Church because it’s when people first began telling the world about Jesus."

Maths

We have completed our addition and subtraction unit with a focus on hands-on learning. Students have been exploring how to join and separate amounts to make new numbers using MAB blocks. They have been learning to solve problems by adding numbers, writing number sentences, and using a range of strategies to find solutions.

Grade 3/4

Inform and Empower

On Tuesday, we held our Term 2 Inform and Empower session, focusing on the topic of healthy digital habits.  The lesson explored the idea of green time vs screen time. Green time refers to activities we do away from screens—things that help us stay active, social, and balanced.

Students shared their own examples of green time, including writing stories, playing football, dancing, attending friends’ birthday parties, and spending time outdoors with friends. It was wonderful to hear the variety of ways students enjoy their time offline!

We discussed the importance of balancing screen time with green time to support our physical and mental well-being, and to stay connected with the people around us. It was a valuable reminder that stepping away from screens can be both fun and healthy!

Inquiry – researching explorers in pairs

Students have been thoroughly enjoying our recent research projects in Inquiry. Working in pairs, they explored a significant Australian symbol. After researching its appearance, history, and where it can be seen today, students showcased their learning by creating informative and visually engaging posters.

Each pair presented their poster to the class, deepening everyone's understanding of the meaning and importance behind these national symbols. It was fantastic to see their curiosity, teamwork, and presentation skills on full display!

Grade 5/6

It’s been a big and meaningful week in the Grade 5/6 learning community! Our Grade 5 Fire Carriers and Grade 6 Catholic Identity Team proudly represented our school at a special gathering in Echuca for NAIDOC Week. The event included a moving smoking ceremony, deepening our connection to culture and community.

In English, we’ve been crafting Informative Recounts, focusing on the remarkable life of Jandamarra, a legendary Indigenous warrior who showed great strength and resistance. Students have been learning how to combine factual information with engaging writing techniques.

In Inquiry, we’ve begun creating dioramas to showcase our research and understanding of significant people, places, and events in Australian history.

Our Religious Education learning has focused on Pentecost, exploring its meaning and how the Holy Spirit inspires us to live with courage and compassion.

Well done to all students for their enthusiasm and thoughtful contributions this week!
