Girton vs Creek Street – Soccer Friendlies Recap
Over the past two weeks, Girton Grammar has hosted a series of friendly soccer matches against Creek Street, providing excellent preparation for the ICCES Winter Tour (Senior School) and the Sandhurst Division competition (Junior School) – and what a spectacle it was!
The action kicked off with theYear 9/10 Boys, who battled Creek Street in a tightly contested encounter. Girton controlled the majority of possession but couldn’t find the back of the net until the dying moments of the match. The crowd erupted as Girton clinched a thrilling 1–0 victory.
Next up, the Year 5/6 Boys put on a show in front of the Senior School. Dominating both possession and field position, they capitalised on their chances to secure a convincing 3–0 win.
The Year 7–9 Girls took to the Londonderry pitch with one goal in mind – goals! An attacking masterclass saw the girls net six goals, sending the crowd into a frenzy.
The Year 5/6 Girls followed with a controlled, possession-heavy performance. Their discipline and patience paid off with a well-earned 1–0 victory.
The final match featured the Year 7/8 Boys in what proved to be the most evenly contested fixture of the series. Creek Street struck early, taking a 1–0 lead within the opening minutes. However, Girton regrouped and found their rhythm, eventually levelling the score in the second half to finish 1–1.
This has been a fantastic fortnight of football, and we’d like to extend our thanks to all involved. In particular, thank you to the students and staff of Creek Street, for their sportsmanship and efforts both on and off the pitch. Mr Tarrant, whose behind-the-scenes work was crucial to the success of the event. Mac Hilson, for his dedicated coaching and player development in the lead-up to these matches. Our wonderful coaches, who gave up their free time to ensure all players had a fair opportunity to participate. The loyal supporters, who brought energy and excitement to every match. Our Maintenance Team, for getting pitch markings done on short notice and keeping Londonderry looking immaculate
Thank you to everyone who helped bring these games to life, and we look forward to more exciting interschool sporting fixtures in the future!
