Dear Year 1&2 Families
Welcome to week 5 of the term. We are already halfway through a fantastic term one of year 2025. Thank you for all your support and patience during this time.
Students have done an amazing job in settling down into their new settings and environments. They have shown greater resilience and persistence to embrace their new classroom norms and routines.
During Reading, Year 1 and 2 students have been reading variety of texts by using the strategies of prediction and visualisation to understand the text in a better and meaningful way and to develop and enhance their reading and comprehension skills.
In Writing, students have been writing about their weekend recounts.
Students have been able to recall the activities or events they have done or participated over the weekend and presented the details by drawing and writing about their activities by using the recount structure of Who, What, Where, When, Why and How.
Maths has been the most popular and exciting learning area for the students this week as they have been learning about numbers by using various strategies such as trust the count, subitising and choral counting etc. Students have been engaged in different maths activities and games to practise their counting skills and the most favourite of everyone was Tenzi. Ask your child how to play Tenzi and you can play with them at home.
In SEL and Inquiry students have been learning about eSafety.
They have been learning about how to use different devices such as phones, ipads, laptops etc safely. Students have also been learning about protecting their personal information while using online websites. Students have learnt many ways to protect their personal information e.g
Never give your name, address, phone number, school name or even your parents name without your parent’s permission
Don’t respond to the rude or mean messages
Never send your pictures etc.
They have learnt different ways to be responsible, respectful and kind while using online websites. E.g
Protect your personal information
Use apps and games of your age
Look after the devices you use etc.
We strongly encourage families to talk to their children at home about being safe and responsible when using technology and being online.
The new school start time from this year is 8.35 am in the morning. We would like to encourage you to drop your child to school at 8.35 am daily so they can participate in their Morning Circle activities which is a crucial part of their day.
