Voices of Leadership from our Junior School Captains
Our Junior School Captains Hasini Matcha (Year 6) and Joshua Koy (Year 6) addressed the College community at the first Whole-College Assembly. Please read Hasini and Joshua's introduction below.
Hi, my name is Joshua Koy. This year Hasini and I are the Junior School Captains for 2025. Hasini and I are truly excited for this very special opportunity. Here is a little bit about me… I love sports and trying out different types of sports. However, my all-time favourite sport is basketball! My favourite academic subject is Maths. I believe that organisation is one of my strengths; being organised is a very important skill to have in our everyday life. This year’s school theme ‘Words matter, actions matter more’ is very important, because with just a small simple action, it conveys a lot to others. I personally think that this is a very good theme and that everyone can make a difference, even if it is a small token, and, by doing so, we can make the world a better place!
Hi, my name is Hasini Matcha. I am delighted to be your 2025 Junior School Captain, alongside Joshua. I am thrilled and very excited for this fantastic opportunity. I love playing tennis, as it is a great sport to play with friends and it teaches you confidence, cooperation and resilience, which are all key elements of a leader. I also love reading novels in genres like mystery, horror, and adventure. As a Junior School Captain, I hope to be a role model to all of you, showcasing ERIC and this year’s theme: ’Words matter, actions matter more’. I hope to inspire you to follow those words this year.
Tech Trek
On 11 February our amazing Year 4 and 5 students set off on an exciting adventure called Tech Trek! This special event was designed to inspire our students to explore the digital world while embracing our core values of empathy, respect, integrity and courage (ERIC).
The fun kicked off on Day 1 with a warm welcome from Mr Christie and an engaging talk about the importance of taking care of our devices. The excitement was palpable as the Year 4 and 5 students received their very own iPads and Apple Pencils—what a moment! Meanwhile, our returning Year 5 students jumped into hands-on skills workshops. Later everyone came together for an eye-opening Online Safety Webinar hosted by the E-Safety Commission, where our students learned how to be super-smart online detectives. The day was wrapped up with a burst of creativity as students designed their very own class logos using Apple tools.
Day 2 was just as action packed! Students reflected on what they learned from the webinar and brought their ideas to life by creating animations showcasing the E-Safety Commission’s top 5 tips. Then, working in teams, they collaborated to design algorithms to solve real-life problems they might face while using their iPads at school. To top it all off, they worked through their ‘Digital Passports’, gaining even more knowledge about device care and how to be awesome digital citizens.
All in all, Tech Trek 2025 was an absolute blast! It was fun, and an inspiring and valuable experience for everyone involved. We cannot wait to see how our students continue to shine in the digital world!
