Principal's Report

Welcome back

Welcome to all new and returning families.  I hope for those new families you have had a positive start at LPS and feel welcomed into our community.

I hope everyone had some quality time over the break to spend with family whether you travelled far or stayed at home.

I would like to congratulate all those walkers (students, teachers, and parents) who continued their iCAN training over the holidays. Well done!

Teachers spend the first few weeks of our school year really focusing on routines within their classroom.  When routines are set early, it can alleviate anxiety and develop consistency and structure which is very important in any classroom.

Car Parking

Like most schools, car parking is limited.  I ask that you do not park in the Health and Wellbeing Centre at any time.  This is private parking for their clients only.  I was extremely shocked to receive a phone call last night to say that their receptionist was verbally abused by a female parent and their male partner, all because the receptionist asked them to not park in the car park.  This is such a disappointing thing to hear at the start of our school year.

There continues to be renovation works at the Langwarrin Community Centre, we ask parents to avoid using the community centre’s car park during peak drop off and pick up times.

Additionally, we encourage families to be mindful of legal parking areas, as traffic patrols many be increased to ensure safety and compliance.

Pick Up Zone

At pick up please follow all directions from staff.  We have a responsibility to allow the buses through and keep Warrandyte Road moving as best we can.  Sometimes one car not moving out of the pickup zone can halt traffic on Warrandyte Road, including public buses.

The End of the Day – Child Safe Standards

Please note that our gates open to parents (and EMC students) at 3.20pm.  If you need to enter the office please do so, closing the gate behind you.

Should you ever need to use a toilet whilst onsite we have one available at the office.  Under no circumstances are parents or secondary school students to use our children’s facilities.  This would be a breach of our child safe standards.

Annual privacy reminder for our school community

Our school collects and uses student and parent personal information for standard school functions or where permitted by law, as stated in the Schools’ Privacy Policy and the Schools’ Privacy Collection Notice.

Our Photographing, Filming and Recording Students Policy describes how we collect and use photographs, video and recordings of students. The policy also explains when parent consent is required and how it can be provided and withdrawn.

We ask parents to also review the guidance we provide on how we use Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace for Education safely at the school and what parents can do to further protect their child’s information. If after reviewing the guidance, you have any questions or concerns regarding your child using Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace for Education, please contact the school.

Breakfast Club

We are looking for volunteers to help run our breakfast club program. We are aiming to get this up and running again as soon as possible. The program usually runs on a Tuesday and Thursday morning from 8.20am-8.50am. Volunteers are asked to assist with setting up and packing up as well as serving cereals and milo. If you are able to assist on either day, please email Jade Hansted.  Jade.hansted@education.vic.gov.au

School Council Nominations

It is that time again when we are calling for School Council members. There are 4 parent positions available. If I receive more than 4 nominations for parent members, then I need to call a ballot.  In that case I will communicate this with you all and how you can cast your vote.  In the meantime, if you would like to either nominate yourself or nominate someone else, please come into the office and collect a nomination form. Nominations close at 4pm 24th February 2025.

We have 2 School Council meetings per term on Wednesdays.

School councils have three main responsibilities:

  • Finance: overseeing the development of the school’s annual budget and ensuring proper records are kept of the school’s financial operation
  • Strategic planning: participating in the development and monitoring of the school strategic plan
  • Policy development and review: developing, reviewing and updating policies that reflect our school values and support the school’s broad direction outlined in its strategic plan.

School Council members also sit on one sub-committee held on the same evening as School Council – from 5.30pm.

Have a great fortnight,

Nicola Pepper
