INTERMEDIATE GIRLS SOFTBALL SMR FINALS

On Tuesday 29 April the Intermediate Girls Softball Team headed to Farm Rd to compete in the Southern Metro Regional Finals.

The girls faced some exceptional competition from experienced pitchers from Kooweerup Secondary College and Cranbourne West Secondary College which made it very difficult to score runs during our group games. But the girls were not deterred by the tough competition and worked hard in the field to prevent their opposition from scoring full counts of runs in their innings.

Some highlights from the day were some fantastic catching from Tessa Macfarlane, consistent pitching from Madeleine De Ryk and an outstanding double play where Kora Burke caught out the hitter then was able to get the ball to Scarlet Lockwood to take the final out for the innings on 1st base.

Well done to all of the girls who played on the team:

Kora Burke (Year 10), Madeleine De Ryk (Year 10), Ellie Heron (Year 10), Isobel Huntley (Year 10), Matilda Jobling (Year 10), Erin Liebman (Year 9), Scarlet Lockwood (Year 10), Tessa Macfarlane (Year 10) and Ruby Morrison (Year 9).

YEAR 8 SOFTBALL SMR FINALS

On Friday 2 May the Year 8 Softball team played their Southern Metro Region Final after being undefeated throughout the Kingston Division Competition. It was an early start for three of the team who returned from the Year 8 camp to play in the Finals.

Our 1st game saw us come up against some strong competitors from Frankston Secondary College. The game was off to a challenging start as we were down 2-4 after the 1st innings. However, some exceptional fielding kept them from scoring many runs in the 2nd innings, then with some smart batting and running we were up by 4 runs at the end of innings 2. The game progressed in the same manner with the final score being 16-11 to us.

Following our 1st game, we were on a winning streak and success was in the air as we defeated Elwood Secondary College and Elisabeth Murdoch College in 2 innings each.

A very tired team following camp and three intense games collected the Blue SMR pennant at the end of the day. The team now progresses to State Finals in November.

Congratulations to Amelia Behrendt, Sienna Cabrita, Tegan DuToit, Ella Graham, Renee Landini, Mia Lyubic, Abigail Muyemba, April Thomas, Amelia Virgona and Lexi Watts.

SMR & STATE DIVING FINALS

Our divers had to show their best diving skills in four dives in order to qualify through to the State Finals later that afternoon. Rory Waters (Year 10), Zach Hardiman (Year 8) and Micaela Kelleher (Year 8) did not hold back and placed 1st, 2nd and 2nd respectively.

Up against tough competition in the State Finals, all three students once again demonstrated why McKinnon is a force to be reckoned with. Rory Waters placed 2nd, Micaela Kelleher also placed 2nd and Zach Hardiman placed 3rd.

Well done and congratulations to these students!

SENIOR BOYS BASEBALL SMR FINALS

McKinnon Secondary College’s baseball team has officially stamped its authority on the diamond, going undefeated at Regionals and bringing home the championship in thrilling fashion. With dominant performances on both sides of the field, the team showcased resilience, unity, and unmatched talent from start to finish.

The pitching was electric all day, with Rohan Baker (Year 12), Brooklyn Riwaka (Year 11), and Jesus Camacho Meza (Year 11) leading the charge from the mound. Each brought their own firepower, keeping opposition hitters off-balance and getting outs when needed.

Behind the plate, captain Miller Leech (Year 12) was a rock. Catching every inning of every game, he threw out every runner who dared test his arm and led with calm confidence. His leadership was instrumental in guiding the team’s energy and focus across a long day of fierce competition.

Vice-captain Josh Bridges (Year 12) also put on a show, turning in a hitting clinic at the plate while locking down first base with athletic plays and reliable glove work. Alongside him, the team’s offensive firepower was unmatched. Finn Sharp, Mark Serebro, Josh Bridges, (Year 12) and Joe Diamond (Year 11) punished opposing pitchers with relentless hitting, combining for an impressive number of runs across the pool games.

After winning every game in dominant fashion, McKinnon advanced to a nail-biting final. Jesus Camacho Meza took the mound and fought through a gritty battle against a tough lineup, holding them scoreless with heart and control. A game-saving catch by Rohan Baker in the outfield stole a runoff the board and shifted momentum back to McKinnon’s side.

With the game tied 0-0 in the final innings, it was Finn Sharp who came up clutch - delivering a game-winning hit that drove in the only run of the match. With one run to protect, Brooklyn Riwaka stepped onto the mound and shut the door in dominant style, striking out all three batters he faced to seal a 1-0 victory.

It was a full team effort, and McKinnon’s Boys proved that they are a force to be reckoned with. With a regional title in hand, they now turn their eyes to the next stage - determined to carry this momentum forward.

YEAR 7 SHUTTLE RUN CHALLENGE

On Tuesday 13th May the best runners in year 7 competed against Mr Chan in the 20m Shuttle Run Challenge (formerly known as the beep test challenge).

There was a huge turn out of year 7’s who lined the gym to support and cheer on their peers as they competed to see who are the best runners in year 7.

It was tight competition with no one dropping out until the start of level 7, proving we had the best runners in the cohort competing. The girls race was eventually won by Jasmine Hingert running to an impressive level 9.3. The boys race was tight all the way to the end with Stavron Alexiou challenging Flynn Walker all the way to level 12. Flynn was able to push through and ran until he slipped at the start of level 12.7.

Congratulations to all of our amazing athletes, and special mention to Jasmine & Flynn who take home the title of best 20m shuttle runners and their rebel sports vouchers.
