CAPTAIN'S CORNER

SENIOR CAPTAIN

As we make our way through Term Two of 2025, all senior students are preparing for a whirlwind of assessments that are getting closer every day. With mid-year exams for Year 10s and 11s, and SACs that contribute to the final score for Year 12s, it's starting to get a bit hectic for the senior school!

Now’s a time where things can undoubtedly get stressful. To all the students involved, my advice is to take your time and focus now rather than later. You’ve heard this many times before, but it’s true. You can’t learn things overnight, or the day before your test, so use your teachers, your resources and your time wisely. You can’t get these back no matter how hard you wish. Stick close to your friends, they’re your support system through this challenging time - and to parents, knowing what your children are going through, and encouraging them is the best way to keep up their motivation for study. You’re their biggest cheerleader, show them that!

Aside from study, there’s lots to be excited about this term, with the 2025 Global Languages Championship kicking off, Model UN coming up, Gigs on the Green making a comeback and Trivia Night for the Year 12s. There are plenty of ways to be involved in the McKinnon Magic. Take advantage of these opportunities, they create the most amazing memories I promise you won’t regret.

We have a long term ahead of us but there’s no doubt it will fly by.

Thank you, and best of luck to everyone!!

JUNIOR CAPTAIN

The term kicked off with a short but exciting first week, with just two days of school due to Easter, Parent Teacher Conferences, and ANZAC Day. The whole school assembly was a standout event, featuring fantastic performances by the Senior Stage Band and the String Band. Their wonderful music really set a positive tone for the weeks ahead.

Half of the Year 9 Geography students are eagerly looking forward to the upcoming South Melbourne Market excursion, which promises to be a fantastic day of interviewing people around the market and enjoying lunch from the food court. Excitement is also building for the Education Perfect Championships. Hundreds of students are preparing to compete and rack up as many points as possible. If you’re interested in joining, then simply hop onto Education Perfect and join the championships. Compete with your friends to see who scores the most.

Later in the month, Cultural Diversity Week and Cross Country is about to begin. There will be a meeting for people who want to set up a stall for Cultural Diversity Week so if you want to earn some quick cash, join in. Also, simply walking or jogging in the Cross Country gives your house points so come along to help your house win!

Recently, Spooky String Night brought a wave of fun and fright as students dressed up as their favourite spooky characters, making it a memorable evening. All of Year 9 can’t wait for the Wisdom and Service Upskill Program happening during the end of Term 2 because it helps build skills for future careers.

In conclusion, this term so far has been amazing and everyone, including me, is excited for the term ahead of us. We are open to so many doors of opportunity, like Cultural Diversity Week, Cross Country and more! Even if it’s hard to choose, pick one you enjoy most. I’m definitely looking forward to the Cross Country coming up.

Thank you, and I hope for another amazing term!
