iFLY

The iFly Excursion is taking place on Wednesday 25 June 2025.

It’s an exciting time for students who undertake Year 10 Engineering. They will be travelling to Essendon Fields to explore indoor skydiving. Students will also participate in a STEM workshop.

What happens at an iFly STEM field trip?

The students will get fired up about math and physics when they see it come to life in a state-of-the-art wind tunnel. The STEM educators will guide students through an immersive, hands-on experience that consists of:

  • An interactive presentation on real-world STEM applications

  • Physics demonstrations in the wind tunnel

  • Lab activity and immersive experiments

  • Measure and record data and interpret results

  • One-on-one flying with a certified world-class iFLY flight instructor.

Dr Law and Mr Bise will be taking students on this excursion. Let’s see what they think in an upcoming newsletter!

GROK COMPETITION

The Grok Competition starts on 5 May 2025.

If you’re interested in competing with students around the world and have a creative mind, this Grok Competition may appeal to you.

You will learn how to write web pages in HTML and CSS while competing with students around the world!

There are two streams:

  • Web.Comp (Beginners) is designed for students with no prior experience in web development and covers everything necessary to get started building real websites.

    • Along the way, students will also cover many of the techniques behind good web design, so the sites are both easy to use and beautiful to look at.

  • Web.Comp (Intermediate) is designed for students with some prior web design experience, and assumes they've already completed Web.Comp (Beginners) or our HTML/CSS Starter and Beginners courses.

    • Learn the principles of good web UI design to make your sites accessible, easy to use and beautiful to look at while also picking up some new HTML/CSS skills.

If you’re interested in participating in the Grok competition, please email hmn@mckinnonsc.vic.edu.au for more information.
