EP LANGUAGES CHAMPIONSHIP OPENING CEREMONY

Last Tuesday afternoon, the MERC was alive with chatter and excitement as over 70 keen students turned up for the kick-off of the Education Perfect Languages Championship.

Jasper the Pineapple also swooped in for the occasion and our school photographer Andrew captured plenty of group shots!

I kicked things off by assigning every student the “Numbers 1–10” translation activity in French on Education Perfect. As soon as the countdown began, the race was on to finish the challenge first. There was plenty of laughter (and the odd “help me out!”) as students cheered each other on. It was brilliant watching the older students show the younger ones a trick or two.

A massive shout-out to all our language teachers for jumping in to help. Their support and good humour kept everything ticking along smoothly - and made the whole event a breeze.

At the time of writing, we’re sitting proudly in second place in the world - so let’s give it absolutely everything we’ve got and shoot for that top spot! Good luck to everyone, and here’s to making this our best Languages Championship yet!

McKinnon prides itself on helping our students to prepare to meet the challenges of a complex and globalised world, and plurilingualism is an essential aspect of this. Plurilingualism refers to the ability of individuals to use and understand multiple languages, often with varying levels of proficiency. Our students often come to us already proficient in one or more languages. Being able to build on this basis and to use their knowledge in dynamic and interconnected ways helps them to become the global citizens our community needs.

Once again, our students have demonstrated their ability to work hard as part of a community in order to display the excellence that McKinnon is known for.

YEAR 12 FRENCH STUDENTS STRETCH THEIR SKILLS - AND MUSCLES!

Recently, our Year 12 French students had the unique opportunity to participate in a yoga session delivered entirely in French by Alex from Petit Yogi. Thirteen students joined the session, embracing the chance to combine language learning with wellbeing.

Throughout the session, Alex’s gentle and encouraging approach created a calm and supportive environment, allowing students to fully immerse themselves in the experience. Guided solely in French, they practised mindfulness, movement, and meditation, while simultaneously strengthening their listening and comprehension skills.

Feedback from the students was overwhelmingly positive. They shared that they thoroughly enjoyed the session and felt fantastic afterwards - both physically and mentally. Many commented on how much they appreciated Alex’s gentleness and the way the session was tailored to suit all levels of yoga experience.

Un grand merci to Alex for providing such a memorable and beneficial experience!
