FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Term 1 - Week 4
Dear Parents, Carers and Friends,
A special welcome to our Kindergarten students, whose first official day of ‘big school’ was last Monday. It never really feels like the year has started properly until all our Kindergarten students join us and create that joyful buzz of nerves and excitement around the school. It truly is a wonderful event for these children and their parents and it is our pleasure to welcome so many families and children as they celebrate this milestone.
Having the opportunity to educate your children at St. Nicholas School is a wonderful honor. We are incredibly privileged to have this responsibility and thank our parents for trusting St Nicholas to work in partnership with you in developing ‘literate and numerate students for a hope filled future’.
As I explained at our Parent Information Night last Wednesday, the school/home partnership is a crucial determining factor in a child’s successful educational journey. When St Nicholas has the opportunity to establish a positive professional relationship with our parents, together we are providing an essential ingredient which enables our students to be the best versions of themselves. As a school we are committed to forming this positive professional relationship with our parents and carers.
Positive professional relationships are founded on communication. Communication requires participation and opportunities for our parents to be involved in their child’s school life.
Opening School Mass and commissioning of our new captains
Friday 7th February was our Opening School Mass. Celebrating mass together as a catholic learning community is such a special way to start the year and as always we thank Fr. Chris for celebrating the mass with us. We also thank Mrs Dunst for her organisation, and our students for taking part in the readings, prayers of the faithful and altar serving.
This Mass was also a special occasion for our Year 6 School and House Captains, who were blessed and received their badges for the year ahead. Our captains, as well as all our Year 6 leaders have a highly influential role in the day to day life of St Nicholas School. They set the example for the younger students and will have many opportunities to contribute their voice throughout the year. Their first example of demonstrating this influence was at our swimming carnival last Friday. As a Principal, I could not have been more impressed and proud of the way they participated and positively influenced our younger students.
Thank you again Year 6. Welcome again to Kindergarten. I wish you all a wonderful fortnight.
