Principal's Report

From the Year 7 and 12 camps to the Year 12 Formal, our Leadership Assembly, and not to mention the wonderful teaching and learning taking place here at the college every day, it's been a fantastic start to 2025. Thank you to our amazing teachers and education support staff for their dedication and hard work in making these events and experiences possible.
Thank You and Farewell to Our School Council President, Steve Pearce
We extend our heartfelt thanks to Steve Pearce, who is stepping down as School Council President following the graduation of his children. Steve’s leadership and vision were pivotal in establishing Beaumaris Secondary College, ensuring high-quality secondary education for our community.
As School Council President, Steve’s unwavering dedication and commitment have significantly shaped the foundation and growth of the college. We are grateful for Steve’s outstanding service and wish him all the best for the future. His contributions will leave a lasting impact on our school community.
2025 Student Leaders
Congratulations to our 2025 Student Leaders, who were officially introduced at our whole-school assembly on Monday. Their diverse roles highlight the many facets of leadership within our college. We look forward to seeing them lead with kindness and integrity, making a meaningful impact throughout the year and beyond.
Year 7 Camp
It was a pleasure to visit the Year 7 Camp last week and witness the strong connections already forming among our new students and teachers. It was equally inspiring to see them embracing the many opportunities available, fostering teamwork and resilience as they begin their secondary school journey.
Year 12 Camp
It was also a pleasure to visit the Year 12 Camp, which has left our students feeling inspired and motivated for their final year at Beaumaris. It was wonderful to see the spirit and connectedness, as well as the desire to make every day count in 2025.
Year 12 Formal
The Year 12 Formal, held at the Lakeside Pavilion in Albert Park last Friday, was a great success thanks to the efforts of Year 12 students Eloise C and Katia H, along with our College Captains, Lily & Val. It was wonderful to see the students embracing the night, dressed up and enjoying themselves ahead of a busy final year at Beaumaris.
Parents as Partners
This week, Year 7 & 8 families met their child's GOAL Mentor, and next week, families of Year 12 and Year 11 Unit 3/4 students will connect with our Year 12 teachers.
Looking ahead, we extend a warm invitation to our new families to join us for the New Families ICT Tools Workshop. This workshop is available both on-site and virtually, and students should attend with their parents.
We firmly believe in the power of collaboration and the significance of strong partnerships to support the learning and wellbeing of our students.
PAT Testing
All students in Years 7-10 completed an online adaptive reading comprehension and maths assessment this week (PAT - Progressive Achievement Tests). The tests allow teachers to make informed decisions about curriculum and cater to the diverse needs of our students. The data also allows the school to tailor programs to meet the needs of learners and identify students who may need support or extension through programs such as EAGLE, HAWK, MYLNS and High Abilities. Students who were absent will have an opportunity to complete the assessment next week.
2025 School Council Election
I am pleased to announce the results of our recent School Council nomination process. The nomination period closed last Thursday, and in accordance with our school council guidelines, since the number of nominations received was less than the number of vacancies in the parent category, those who nominated were declared elected. We warmly congratulate and welcome the following members to our 2025 School Council:
Parent Members | School Employee Member |
---|---|
Shaun Mooney | Fernando Pablo |
Tara Smyth |
The nomination period was extended by three school days to fill the remaining vacancy in the parent category, which has now led to the need for a ballot. Ballot papers will be posted out to families today.
Thank you to our newly elected members and to those who answered our call for further nominations. We appreciate your ongoing involvement in our school community.
I would also like to acknowledge the outstanding work and commitment of our outgoing council. The time and expertise they share to ensure the best possible educational experiences for your children and all students at the college is commendable.
Staffing Update
Welcome back to Sean Leith, who will be Acting Assistant Principal for the remainder of Term 1.
2024 Curriculum Contributions
Thank you to our families who have made or opted into a payment plan for their children's 2025 Curriculum Contributions. Your support plays a crucial role in enriching the educational experience for all students at Beaumaris Secondary College. These contributions enable us to provide a broad range of resources, programs and opportunities that enhance learning and help our students thrive. We are sincerely grateful for your ongoing commitment to our school community.
If you haven't yet had the opportunity to make your 2025 Contributions, please do so via Compass or contact the Office. A reminder that the School Saving Bonus cannot be applied to Contributions; however, it is available for uniforms and school activities, which many families have already taken up this year.
You can read more about how the 2024 Curriculum Innovation Contributions have been used and the impact they have made. We look forward to continuing this partnership in fostering the best possible educational environment for our students.
BSC House Swimming Carnival
We are all looking forward to the annual BSC House Swimming Carnival on Wednesday, 5 March. As this is a whole-school event, all students are expected to attend. There will be no classes running at school on this day. It will be a fantastic day of swimming and house spirit!
Thank you all for your continued commitment to your child's education.
