Health Centre News

Dear Parents and Guardians,
Welcome to the new school year! As we embark on another exciting journey of learning and growth, I want to take a moment to emphasize the importance of maintaining your child's health and well-being throughout the year.
Here are a few key points to ensure we can provide the best care for your child at BPS:
Keeping the School Nurse Informed
It's crucial to keep the school nurse updated with any medical or surgical changes your child may experience during the year. Whether it's a new diagnosis, a recent surgery, or any other health-related updates, please inform us promptly. This information helps us to provide appropriate care and support for your child while they are at school.
Medication Updates
If your child requires medication during school hours, please ensure that the school nurse has the most current information. This includes any changes in dosage, new medications, or discontinuation of existing ones. All medications must be provided in their original packaging with clear instructions from your child's healthcare provider.
Asthma Management
For children with asthma, it's essential to have an up-to-date Asthma Action Plan on file. This plan should outline the steps to take in case of an asthma attack and list any medications your child needs. Please ensure that you provide the school with your child's inhaler and spacer in case they develop symptoms at school.
Anaphylaxis Awareness
Anaphylaxis is a severe allergic reaction that requires immediate attention. If your child has a known allergy that could lead to anaphylaxis, please provide the school with an Anaphylaxis Action Plan. This plan should include details about the allergen, symptoms to watch for, and emergency procedures.
If there is a student in your child's classroom who is affected by anaphylaxis, you would have been notified by the school nurse regarding the allergens and risk minimisation.
Allergies
Please inform the school of any allergies your child has. This includes food allergies, insect stings, medication allergies, and any other relevant information. Keeping us updated with any changes is crucial.
If your child requires antihistamines, please ensure that the school has an up-to-date supply. Medications should be clearly labeled with your child's name and instructions for use.
Please provide a copy of the current allergy action plan to the school nurse so we can ensure our records are up to date and we support your child promptly and effectively if symptoms develop.
General Health Tips
- Keep your child at home if they are unwell. It allows them to rest and recover, and also reduces the risk of spreading viruses on to others
- Pack sunscreen and a hat to keep your child SunSmart
- Remind your child to pack their drink bottles every day to stay hydrated, especially during warmer months.
By working together, we can create a safe and healthy environment for all students. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Let's make this school year a healthy and successful one!
Warm regards,
Nurse Cecile
