At the conclusion of our recent school review, we developed our new Strategic Plan for 2025-2028. Our four Key Improvement Strategies are:
LEARNING:
WELLBEING:
Intent: To improve student outcomes in literacy and numeracy by establishing strong curriculum content and design and effectively embedding evidence-informed pedagogy and practice. We aim to improve student outcomes in Wellbeing through the implementation of the School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) framework and by effectively embedding evidence-informed pedagogy and practice.
Rationale: The paradigm shift to the science of reading and learning requires curriculum content and design to change to reflect these new principles. A continued focus on cognitive science and the science of reading will support improved outcomes. The SWPBS framework will support the development of new school values, and foster consistency in language, understanding of expectations and response to behaviour. Implementation of the Victorian Teaching and Learning Model(VTLM) 2.0, will allow teachers to better understand cognitive science and pedagogical approaches, in order to maximise active participation and improve student outcomes in both learning and wellbeing.
Focus: In 2025 we will focus on implementation of the SWPBS framework, introduce the VTLM 2.0 and continue to develop teacher knowledge in the science of reading and learning. PLCs will plan collaboratively, with a focus on reading, and a clear instructional model will be developed, implemented and monitored. As the strategic plan unfolds, the SWPBS approach will be embedded and monitored for fidelity. Approaches to pedagogy will be embedded to maximise active participation and learning growth. In learning, we will identify key target areas from the VTLM 2.0, to support improved practice. The new English 2.0 curriculum will be embedded through the development of priority standards in reading which, in turn, will support collaborative planning and targeted assessment. Instructional models in Writing and Maths will be developed in line with the VTLM 2.0, with evidence-informed pedagogical approaches embedded across all areas of practice.
We are incredibly excited about the future direction of South Melbourne Park Primary School and look forward to sharing our Annual Implementation Plan with you, throughout the year.
I am thrilled with the Education Department’s development of a new Teaching and Learning model. It is underpinned by the research of the Australian Education Research Organisation (AERO) and is heavily informed by Cognitive Science and Rosenshine’s Principles of Instruction. Our new strategic plan is timed beautifully, with this new direction in Teaching and Learning and our previous work in the Science of Reading, has certainly given us a great head start!
As you can see, AGP construction is in full swing. I am in constant liaison with the AGP in terms of keeping our students safe. They have agreed to pause vehicle movement near the basketball gate during drop off and pick up times. Whilst the size of the kick-off is not ideal at the moment, I am pleased that our kids can play safely. We have also commenced lunchtime clubs (1-6) this week, helping to reduce the number of students in the playground.
Please note the upcoming adjustments that will need to be made in terms of drop-offs and pick-ups. Lakeside carpark will be closed from 7am Monday, 24th February. A “Kiss and Drop” zone will be created in the service road at the front of the school, to compensate for this.
Parents and Carers are asked to drive SLOWLY into the zone, continue to the end, do a U-turn and follow traffic controllers’ directions in terms of where to stop. We ask parents and carers to stay in their cars and let their children out promptly. This will ensure a smooth flow of traffic. We will have leaders on yard duty to support your children, particularly our preps, into school. If you need to bring your child in for any reason, please choose an alternative place to park as there will be NO PARKING in the kiss and drop zone.
I really appreciate your support with these changes.
