Dear Parents,
As we head into the second week of Lent students will continue to learn more about how Project Compassion can impact lives as a way to practically live out Catholic Social Teaching principles. Here is a second story that illustrates how Caritas Australia uses funds raised through Project Compassion.
From next week students will be able to buy raffle tickets for the Easter Raffle with proceeds going to support people like Lam in Vietnam. You can see the impact Project Compassion funds has had on his life and others like him in the video titled: Lam’s journey from isolation to independence.
Our Catholic Social Teaching principle for Week 2 is Solidarity.
Please consider joining our fundraising efforts during Lent to support Project Compassion by:
This week and next, students in Year 3 and 5 will be undertaking the NAPLAN tests. The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is a literacy and numeracy assessment that students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 sit each year. It is the only national assessment all Australian students have the opportunity to undertake.
NAPLAN assesses literacy and numeracy skills that students are learning through their regular school curriculum. Students sit assessments in writing, reading, conventions of language (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy. The questions assess content linked to the Australian Curriculum: English and Mathematics.
Whilst St Christopher’s has an excellent record of achievement in NAPLAN testing over a number of years, it should be remembered that NAPLAN is a snapshot of a point in time and teachers assess students’ growth and learning throughout the year in a variety of ways. Teacher’s use the NAPLAN results as one of many indicators to track student progress and to analyse data trends for our own reflection on teaching practices for literacy and numeracy.
I look forward to seeing many of you at the Parent Association's Welcome Picnic this Friday from 3.30pm to 5.30pm.
Please be advised, as per the school calendar, that next Friday March 21, is a school closure day for staff to attend to First Aid CPR training and qualification and curriculum planning.
