Principal's Report

Kaylene Kubeil

On Monday of this week, we saw the completion of the NAPLAN tests with our Year 3 and Year 5 students. Well done to all the students and teachers involved with this. The results, which are presented in four Proficiency Levels: Exceeding, Strong, Developing, and Needs Additional Support, will be sent to the school later in the year. The NAPLAN reports also show how students track against their peers, indicate their skill levels against national averages, and indicate where we expect them to get the most out of schooling. This provides valuable information to our teachers about how they can continue to support your child.  It is important to remember that NAPLAN is a snapshot of how your child/ren is doing in Literacy and Numeracy at that 'point in time'. While NAPLAN results are a significant milestone, students must also understand that one result does not define them. NAPLAN is not about passing or failing but more about assessing learning progress. At the whole school, cohort and classroom level, NAPLAN is just one of several important data sets used by our teachers.

Thank you to the teachers and Mr Dupuy, who oversaw the implementation of these tests. From our administration's perspective, we were pleased to get 100%.

School Council - 2025

The 2025 configuration of our School Council has now been determined. We have completed our AGM with our office bearers now determined. They are all listed below for your reference. At the AGM, the school council attested to our 2024 Annual Report to School Community, a government-mandated document all schools must provide and make publically available. Whilst it has been 'attested' by the council member, it is now at the QA (Quality Assurance) stage, and once this is complete, it will be available via our school website. We anticipate that this will occur by the end of April.  Our 2025 School Council representation comprises Kaylene Kubeil, Lyle Winter (President), Casey Brown (Vice President), Matt Kirkright (Secretary), Rae Gittos, Brad Dupuy, Renee Balzan, Anna Larkan, Susan Lesson, Kim Morgan, and Shelby Toulson.

What is the role of a School Council?

The key functions of the school council are:

  • to establish the broad direction and vision of the school within the school's community
  • to arrange for the supply of goods, services, facilities, materials, equipment and other things or matters required for the conduct of the school, including the provision of preschool programs
  • to raise funds for school-related purposes
  • to regulate and facilitate the after-hours use of the school premises and grounds
  • to exercise a general oversight of the school buildings and grounds and ensure they are kept in good order and condition
  • to provide for the cleaning and sanitary services that are necessary for the school
  • to ensure that all money coming into the hands of the council is expended for proper purposes relating to the school
  • to provide meals and refreshments for the staff and students of the school and make charges for those meals or refreshments
  • to inform itself and take into account any views of the school community to make decisions regarding the school and the students at the school
  • to generally stimulate interest in the school in the wider community
  • to prepare the School Strategic Plan and review the Annual Implementation Plan — to be signed by the president and the principal
  • to report annually (the Annual Report) to the school community and to the department on the school’s financial activities, the School Strategic Plan, and any other matters that the Minister determines
  • to manage the hire, licence and shared use of school facilities
  • to determine the dates for the school’s student-free days, follow the number of student-free days each calendar year specified by the Secretary of the department

School Review Update

We are looking forward to our school review next term. The first day of the school review is Thursday, 24th April. This first day is about looking back over the last 4 years and creating a plan for two fieldwork (observation) days. The last day is the 'panel' day when everything comes together to make our School Strategic Plan with future goals and key improvement strategies (KIS).  I want to give a 'shout-out' of thanks to those families who completed our parent voice survey. Please let us know about the previous highlights and areas to focus on for the next four years. Throughout the review , there will be another opportunity for families to have a say in a parent/carer forum. The dates and times will be communicated as soon as the school review panel determines them. If you can attend this, your participation will be greatly appreciated.

Have a great weekend, and I am looking forward to Week 10 and our Whole School Assembly on Friday 4th, April at 9.00 am - upper basketball court (weather permitting)
