Assistant Principal's Report

Dear Parents and Carers of the BEPS community,
Harmony Day
This week, we celebrated Harmony Day on Monday and celebrated the week as an important event on our school calendar.
Harmony Week is a fantastic opportunity for BEPS students, parents, and teachers to come together in recognition and appreciate the different backgrounds, cultures, and traditions that make our school a special place.
The week focuses on inclusion, respect, and belonging. Students and staff participated in activities that highlighted the importance of working together and valuing each other's differences.
Our differences make us stronger, and we are committed to ensuring that every child, family, and staff member feels valued, respected, and included at our school.
Harmony Day is a reminder of the importance of supporting each other in respecting we all come from different backgrounds. Let's continue to work together to create a school where everyone feels welcome and safe.
NAPLAN Update
Over the past 10 days, our Year 3 and 5 students have been completing their NAPLAN.
We understand that this time can bring a mix of emotions, including anxiety, for both students and parents.
At BEPS, we viewed NAPLAN as a snapshot of student learning—a single point in time that provided helpful insights into progress in literacy and numeracy. It is one of many tools we use to understand and support student learning. NAPLAN does not define your child. It doesn't measure kindness, resilience, creativity, or empathy—qualities we value in BEPS students. It is a test that assesses specific skills under timed conditions.
We are incredibly proud of our Year 3 and 5 students, not just for their efforts in these assessments but for their enthusiasm, curiosity, and determination. Our teachers have been working hard to prepare students, ensuring they feel confident and supported. Throughout the assessment period, we created a calm and encouraging environment, reminding our students that NAPLAN is just one piece of the puzzle.
No matter their results, we celebrate each child and look forward to recognising their achievements, in and beyond the classroom.
Parent Helpers in Class:
This week, we held two successful Parent Helpers Sessions, providing valuable guidance on volunteering in the classroom. The sessions covered key areas, including supporting literacy and numeracy, attending excursions, maintaining confidentiality, and holding a Working with Children Check (WWCC).
Parents engaged in effective ways to assist students and enhance their learning experiences.
We appreciate the enthusiasm and commitment of our parent volunteers and look forward to their valuable contributions in the classroom.
SUP
Students have been learning to navigate friendship challenges using the SUP (Stand Up Program) language, including terms like "Friendship Fires" and "Mean on Purpose." They are beginning to identify way of expressing their feelings, understanding the difference between small conflicts and intentional unkindness, using strategies to resolve issues respectfully. Through class discussions and activities, they are building resilience in developing positive ways to manage friendships.
Feeling Unwell: 🤢🤧🤒
Some cases of gastro have been reported in a few classes across the school.
To help stop the spread, please:
Keep unwell children at home: Students should only return 48 hours after their last symptoms.
Help us encourage regular handwashing – using soap and water.
Avoid sharing food and drinks: This helps prevent the spread of germs.

Chess ♟️
Each Tuesday, a dedicated group of students learns and plays chess, building their strategic thinking, problem-solving, and concentration skills.
Their hard work and commitment will soon be tested as some of them prepare to represent BEPS in an upcoming competition on Monday.
We wish Erin, James and Rainier the best of luck—Go, BEPS!
Ride2 School Day🚲🛴🚶🏼♂️
Today was National Ride2School Day. It was fantastic to see so many children walking, riding their bikes, and on their scooters. A representative from Bike Victoria and Mitch were at the gates handing out stickers to those students joining in on the fun and walking and riding to school.
Take care,
Teri and Edwina
