Visual Arts

Foundation - Year 6

Foundation

Students have established routines and procedures and worked towards the expectations of a Visual Arts session. They have experimented with materials, such as oil pastels and soft pastels and techniques to create the appearance of texture and three dimensional form, along  with the other visual elements and design principles. Students have created artworks from observation of their peers and teacher as well as about what they enjoy at primary school. They have engaged with the learning pit, recognising that to learn something new they first need to feel challenged and seek assistance.

Year 1 and 2

Students have explored aquatic environments and used their prior knowledge and understanding of both negative and positive actions of humans to predict the future of our waterways and the delicate ecosystems they are. They will explore techniques and materials to incorporate texture and value along with transferring their skills they gained last year for landscapes to produce seascapes. Students have started planning an animation about animal habitats that they will work on during the STEM and Visual Arts sessions.

Year 3 and 4

Students have focussed on the environment of space and the influence that humans have had and are currently having on this vast environment. They have produced artwork that uses three dimensional form along with depth of field and incorporated imaginative elements that assist in a message being conveyed to an audience. Students have endeavoured to balance their artwork and use the visual elements to emphasise the most important part whilst also directing the viewer's eyes.

Year 5 and 6

Students have visually represented human made environments and used their prior knowledge of environmental issues to create a thought provoking artwork. They used their understanding of the design principles and the visual elements along with depth of field to create the illusion of background, middle ground and foreground. Students have self assessed their progress and have identified the success criteria they need to focus on in the remaining weeks of the term, such as 3D form, emphasis and balance. They will be formally assessing themselves and presenting their final artwork to their peers, proudly showcasing their talents.
