Focus on Food

Last week our Year 9 & 10 students have been embracing the joys of hands-on learning by diving into the world of homemade bread and pasta.

Students have had the chance to explore basic cooking techniques that are both creative and useful. The Year 9 students learnt how to make simple, delicious bread from scratch. From mixing ingredients, proving and kneading the dough, they experienced every step of the baking process and their results were mouthwatering!  Not only did the students enjoy the satisfaction of creating their own loaves and rolls, but they also gained valuable insights into the science behind baking.

Year 10 Food students took their culinary skills to the next level by learning how to make pasta from scratch!  Students mixed the basic ingredients of flour, eggs, salt and oil to create the perfect dough.  They learnt the delicate process of kneading the dough until it was smooth and elastic and then used the pasta machine to roll it out.  The results were a tasty, satisfying meal that students could proudly say that they made from scratch.  Our students hopefully walked away with a new appreciation for homemade pasta and a set of skills that will last a lifetime!
