All students have made a fantastic start to the year. The major focus of the PE program in Term 1 is Fundamental Motor Skills (FMS) 1 – 11. Acquisition, practice and refinement. Depending on what level a student is at, there is a different focus.
In Foundation the focus is FMS 1, Catch and underarm throw.
In Years 1/2 the focus has been FMS 1 and the underarm throw as well as FMS 3, Run.
The focus for all Year 3/4 students has been FMS 1 Catch, FMS 3, Run and FMS 5, The overhand throw.
In Years 5/6 we have concentrated on FMS 1, 3, 5 and 11, Two handed side arm strike.
All students have participated in paired, small group, and whole class activities. I have also been individually conferencing with each student.
The Year 5/6 students have their Summer Gala taking place on Friday the 14th March and we will be competing in both Basketball and Cricket.
The school Cross Country recently took place and was an astounding success. Special mention to our three parent helpers, you did a great job, thank you.
Khadijah Abdulsalam, our school Sports Captain, has written a report on our Cross-country day. She is doing a great job and serves as a role model for the entire student body.
Cross Country Recap
By Khadijah Abdulsalam
On Thursday a few weeks ago, we had our school cross country. We walked down to Princes Highway Reserve and all the Year 3- 6 students went to the park to race. Lots of kids were cheering for their house mates and I think Freeman and Namatjira did the best cheering. It took two hours for us to finish and lots of people did a great job. After we came back, we had recess and then it was time for the Preps and 1/2s to race.
Some of the other captains and I helped the Preps and 1/2s in their race because some of them went outside the cones, and we had to assist them in completing the race properly. After the Preps and 1/2s had finished, we had our ribbon ceremony. The students who ran 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th got ribbons. Some students also received "Well Done" ribbons for their exceptional effort and hard work.
Students that finished in the top 10 of each race will get to participate in District Cross Country. I think everyone did an awesome job and hopefully next year will be an even better Cross Country.
