The 5/6 Mathematics Experience

Year 5/6 students have been learning about angles and probability through hands-on activities. They have measured and identified different types of angles in real-life objects and explored probability using dice, spinners, and everyday events. Students are using terms like ‘certain,’ ‘likely,’ and ‘impossible’ to describe chances of events happening.

Our math experience was a fun one. We did angles first and had a multitude of activities such as measuring and creating angles, and learning how to measure an intersection (not the one on the road) without a protractor, and much more. The fun first session was great, it set a baseline for everything that followed. We learned what a complementary, supplementary and explementary angle is. The second part of the angles' journey refined everything, and we finally learnt how to measure an intersection without a protractor.

Our second math topic was probability. We learnt about how a probability scale cannot be lower than 0 or higher than 1. We also did a tally about rock, paper, scissors and dice. For the dice two people rolled two dice and if the total dice was even the person who chose even would get the point but if the total was odd than the person who chose odd would people did this for a while. As for the rock paper activity we would create a tally about how often each object would win. Then we would turn it into a graph for the cherry on top. All in all, math has been fantastic fun and I can’t wait to learn more about everything to know about math.

Persuasive Power and Bringing Stories to Life

This term, our Year 5/6 students have been developing their writing skills by focusing on persuasive and narrative writing. They have crafted persuasive texts, using strong arguments and evidence to convince their audience, and are now beginning to explore narrative writing, focusing on characters, setting, and plot development. As part of their persuasive writing, students published their work on Beebee and Pikachu’s rainforest campaign to be captain, showcasing their ability to use emotive language, rhetorical questions, and compelling reasons. Recently, they also explored the concept of visualization in reading, enhancing their ability to imagine scenes, characters, and settings from the stories they read. This engaging activity helped strengthen their comprehension skills and fostered a deeper connection with the texts.

Cross Country Success

Our Year 5/6 students recently participated in the much-anticipated cross country event, demonstrating determination, perseverance, and sportsmanship. Throughout their training, they worked on building endurance, pacing themselves, and setting personal goals to improve their performance. On race day, every student put in their best effort, cheering on their peers and showing great team spirit. A special thank you to our student captains, who assisted Josie and Chris and supported younger students by running alongside those in Foundation to Year 2. We are incredibly proud of their achievements and the resilience they displayed during the event. On the 20th of February, our school had cross country. It was also my last one ever in this school and the loudest one of all. The 3/4s and the 5/6s walked to the Princes Highway Reserve and held their races there. The preps and 1/2s did it in the oval. I was so proud when I saw the preps to Year 2 try their absolute best to run to the finish line. This year had a different system, for example, all races are given ribbons to the top five except the 12/13.

Clean-Up Australia Day

On Clean Up Australia  Day, our students at Clayton North Primary School demonstrated exceptional teamwork and community spirit by taking part in a school-wide clean-up. Both inside and outside the school, the students worked tirelessly to collect litter, ensuring our learning spaces and playgrounds remained spotless. Their efforts not only contributed to a cleaner environment but also reinforced the importance of sustainability and responsibility.

On Friday, the 28/2/2025, we organized a school clean-up throughout the entire campus. We divided ourselves into groups and split up to clean various parts of the school and we all enjoyed our teamwork, and we were happy with our effort in helping to keep our school campus neat and tidy. By having Clean Up Australia Day, we were able to get a lot of rubbish out of the school yard. We all helped clean our school by picking up bits and pieces of rubbish. Because of Clean Up Australia day we saw how much cleaning our yard helped the environment.

Students Learn Life-Saving Skills at First Aid Incursion

On February 17th, the students at Clayton North Primary School participated in a First Aid Incursion, where they learned valuable life-saving skills. The hands-on session covered essential topics such as CPR, how to treat burns, and what to do in case of an emergency. Our students were engaged and eager to learn, practicing the techniques with the guidance of trained professionals. This experience not only equipped them with important first aid knowledge but also emphasized the importance of staying calm and helping others when needed.
