Dear Clayton North Primary School Community

Welcome to Autumn!

The last three weeks have been a flurry of activities, including the School Cross Country, School Photos, and the Clean up Australia Day CNPS event. All events were highly successful and showcased community involvement and cooperation.  Thank you to parents and families for your continued support.

Students have settled into their learning and wellbeing routines in the classrooms, the results of which we see in how they conduct themselves around the school and the Learner of the Week awards at assembly.

Children have been introduced to the teaching and learning instructional model, which sees them playing an active role and sharing the responsibility in the learning process. Teachers have undertaken professional learning to upskill themselves with new evidence-based strategies to further impact student learning.

We have employed two 4th year pre-service teachers as tutors for the Education Department's Tutor Learner Initiative. Tina and Aimee will support students' literacy and numeracy needs across the school, both within the classroom and in small groups.

The English and Mathematics workbooks are being utilised well in classrooms, with individual teams deciding on whether students work in them every day or once a week. We expect that practising skills on a regular and consistent basis will enable students to achieve mastery.

The new format EAL Program has commenced, with a Reception Program for newly arrived students, and small groups for all other EAL children. If your child is enrolled in the program, you will soon receive a letter that will provide details of the program your child is participating in, and what you can do to assist. We know that the role of parents is critical in children's learning, and it is no different when it comes to supporting children's progress in developing English language skills.

In our continued efforts to support and enhance student learning and outcomes, we have purchased subscriptions for Mathletics (Yr 1-6) and Reading Eggs (Yr 0-4, some 5/6). Both these online programs provide the appropriate level of support and challenge to motivate children and help them develop confidence and improve their skills in Maths and English. Each of these programs comes at a cost of $20 per child for the duration of the school year. Funds can be allocated from the School Saver Bonus towards these as school activities. We will inform families once we have set this up at our end.

Thank you to Paola Rojas, Seulgee You, and Naomi Tahik, who came along to the Working Bee last Friday, and helped to clean up in the garden area.  Any assistance that families can offer to clear and prepare garden beds for planting winter produce, will be heartily welcomed!

Annual Privacy Policy Reminder for our School Community

Our school collects and uses student and parent personal information for standard school functions or where permitted by law, as stated in the Schools’ Privacy Policy and the Schools’ Privacy Collection Notice.

Our Photographing and Filming Students Policy, describes how we collect and use photographs, video and recordings of students. The policy also explains when parent consent is required and how it can be provided and withdrawn.

We ask parents to also review the guidance we provide on how we use Microsoft 365 Workspace for Education safely at the school and what parents can do to further protect their child’s information. If after reviewing the guidance, you have any questions or concerns regarding your child using Microsoft 365 Workspace for Education, please contact the school.

Student Safety

The safety of every child is beyond important and of paramount priority at Clayton North.

We have put several things into place to ensure student safety:

  • Rubber-matting the playgrounds
  • Locking external gates to the school during school hours, and requiring all visitors to enter via the office
  • Updating Child Safe policies
  • Fixing the path to the Bike Shed to ensure students do not ride through the staff carpark
  • Signs to direct students, parents/carers and visitors

I would like to remind families that school finishes at 3.30pm; children need to be collected and all parties depart school grounds by 3.45pm. Staff supervision concludes at this time every day, and staff are either involved in meetings after school or are heading home. We understand that that it can be difficult at times for families to get here at 3.30pm, so it’s highly recommended that parents book their child/ren into after school care, Camp Australia.

Please note that the staff carpark is strictly for staff. Parents must use the carparks outside the school or park on the service road or walk down from McDonalds. At the end of the day, children are walking out of the school via the staff carpark gates or getting their bikes from the bike shed; it is absolutely unsafe to have cars drive in and out at this time.

We appreciate your support in both matters above.
