Maximizing Learning Time: The Importance of Scheduling Appointments

We understand that some medical and personal appointments are unavoidable during school hours. However, we have recently noticed an increase in students arriving late or leaving early due to scheduled commitments. Every moment in the classroom is valuable, and consistent attendance plays a crucial role in academic success. Missing even a short portion of the school day can disrupt learning, making it harder for students to stay on track with their coursework.

Whenever possible, we kindly ask families to schedule appointments outside of school hours to minimize disruptions. We appreciate your cooperation in ensuring that students get the most out of their education. Of course, we recognize that some appointments are unavoidable, and these would be preplanned appointments. In this instance, we encourage parents / guardians to communicate with the school by writing a note in your daughter's diary if a student is to be partially absent. Further to this, we know and recognise that emergency situations arise where forewarning can not be provided and we do not refer to those instances. Finally, thank you for your support in prioritizing learning and helping students make the most of their time at college.

International Women’s Day

Written by Ava Barbara (College Captain) and Tahlya Johnson (College vice Captain)

On International Women's Day, we went to St Columba's where they held an International Women's Day breakfast. Women from various schools within the community came together, which created a positive and uplifting atmosphere - despite the wet weather. We were able to voice our opinions and feelings towards International Women's Day to CSPD and listened to the recipient of Sr Anne Henson International Women’s Day award and her incredible impact on providing legal services to women.

The rest of the school took part in the International Women's Day pastoral care lesson, where they had the opportunity to connect with students in other year groups to learn about and discuss the importance of International Women's Day and accelerating action for women’s equality.

Lent: A Time for Reflection, Growth, and Learning

Lent is a season of spiritual renewal, calling families and students to pause, reflect, and grow in faith. Just as we dedicate time to academic learning, Lent encourages us to deepen our understanding of ourselves, our relationship with others, and our faith. Families can use this time to pray together, engage in acts of kindness, and support those in need, reinforcing the values of empathy and generosity. For students, Lent offers an opportunity to develop self-discipline, make positive changes, and reflect on how their actions align with their beliefs. Schools can foster this by encouraging discussions on perseverance, resilience, and moral decision-making—key aspects of both faith and learning.

In this season, we are reminded of the importance of both knowledge and wisdom. Proverbs 4:7 states, "The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding." Just as students seek knowledge in their studies, Lent invites them to seek wisdom through reflection, prayer, and service. By connecting faith with learning, we embrace a journey of growth that shapes not only our academic success but also our character and purpose in life.
