Freedom Rides

At the end of last year members of the Kempsey High School Junior AECG worked in collaboration with indigenous recording artist Tasman Keith and the Australian Literacy and Numeracy Foundation to create a music video. The whole concept was written, scored, recorded and filmed in five days and was completely driven by the students. They decided to focus on the Freedom Rides with the aim of having something to show at the towns commemoration event.

The sessions also included students being able to talk to local community members who were present when the Freedom Rides bus visited and they also visited places of cultural and historical significance in the local area including the pool that still has a memorial to the visit by Charles Perkins.

We are very proud of our amazing junior AECG and our students who represented Kempsey High School at the 60th anniversary.

Some of our amazing young leaders and our music video was also picked up by 7 News last week, which you can view on our Facebook site https://www.facebook.com/KempseyHigh/

We are excited to be sharing the video with everyone now it has been premiered to the community as part of our towns commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the Freedom Rides.
