NAPLAN 2025 – A Successful Completion!
Over the past two weeks, our Year 3, 5, 7, and 9 students have successfully completed the annual National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) assessments. We commend our students for their effort, resilience, and commitment throughout the testing period.
NAPLAN is an important national assessment that measures students' abilities in reading, writing, language conventions (spelling, grammar, and punctuation), and numeracy. These assessments provide valuable insights into each student’s learning progress and help inform teaching and learning at both a school and system-wide level.
This year, the results are particularly significant as it marks the first time all schools will have accurate growth data over a two-year period. For example, we will be able to directly compare a student’s performance in Year 3 with their results in Year 5, or Year 7 with Year 9, providing a clearer picture of learning progress and growth over time. This will allow us to make even more informed decisions about curriculum, teaching strategies, and student support.
Once we receive the NAPLAN data, we use it in several key ways:
- Whole-School Planning: Our leadership and teaching teams analyse trends in the data to identify strengths and areas for improvement across the school.
- Targeted Classroom Support: Teachers use the results to tailor instruction, ensuring students receive the support and extension they need in key literacy and numeracy areas.
- Individual Student Growth: The data helps track student progress over time, allowing for more personalised learning goals and interventions where necessary.
- Curriculum Refinement: Insights from NAPLAN contribute to refining our teaching programs, ensuring they align with student learning needs and educational best practices.
We encourage families to discuss the experience with their child and celebrate their efforts. When the individual student reports become available later in the year, they will provide useful information about each student’s achievements and areas for future learning.
Thank you to our dedicated staff for supporting students through the assessment period and to our parents and carers for encouraging a positive mindset towards NAPLAN. We look forward to using this data to continue improving student learning outcomes across the College.
A special thank you to our NAPLAN Team consisting of Courtney Hodgson, Cassidy Marsh, Brett Shiel, and Colin Bright, with the support of our IT Department, for their hard work and dedication in ensuring the smooth delivery of NAPLAN.
