SPOTLIGHT

Spotlight -Year 2

What a lovely time we have been having in Year 2. We have had a big change from our Year 1 classes to an open space however our teachers have made it an easy transition and we are settling in well.

In Art, we have been exploring the bright and beautiful colours of Peter Cromer through his Australian native birds. An explosion of colour that has made our rooms pop. We have also made our own Willy the Wimp, a character in a book by Anthony Browne that explores how we can use strategies to be a happy and kind person.

This year was also the first year we got to go and experience our first swimming carnival. What a blast! We tried our very best and even saw some Year 2 students make it to Diocesan swimming.

Mathematics had our heads in a spin, literally! We learnt the terms flip, slide and rotate and explored the different ways we can present 2-Dimensional shapes.

Sport has been amazing fun exploring High Jump with Jay Stone. We can not wait to continue practicing with Jay.

History has been a blast from the past with Mrs Chatfield’s Dad coming in and showing us what it was like to be a teacher, teaching in a class with students from Kindergarten to Year 6. While, Mrs O' Sullivan showed us what the old St Nicholas’ students wore- brown polished shoes, khaki shirts for the boys and brown socks for the girls. Mrs O was also taught by a nun.

Week 6 in Kindergarten

We started our Kindergarten journey with many smiles and excitement about the year ahead. We were perplexed with the location of the Green Sheep and needed to hunt around the school to find him. He was sleeping peacefully out the front, but we enjoyed meeting all the bigger students along the way.

Kindergarten were spreading love on St. Valentines day. We learned about St Valentine and how kind he was to ‘sweethearts’ helping spread love to people around him. We all agreed that we love school and learning and showing kindness.

This week started with excitement for Kindergarten as they began their Monday morning with a special visit from members from the community who keep us safe. The students listened carefully to messages from Tamworth Bus lines and NRMA. The Kindergarten students then boarded a bus for a short ride around East Tamworth, before returning back to school. For some children this was their first experience of public transport and they all enjoyed the experience.

We also did our very first Warm write this week. Students tackled their first creative writing experience with enthusiasm and we are so proud of their creative stories.

We are all getting very tired from the learning in Kindergarten, so early nights and lazy weekends are in store for both students and teachers.
