NAPLAN INFORMATION 2025: Year 3 and Year 5
Upcoming NAPLAN testing will occur for our Year 3 and Year 5 students during Weeks 7 and 8. Please take note of the following dates and ensure that your child has a working set of headphones/earbuds at school for these tests.
WEDNESDAY 12th March: Writing Test
THURSDAY 13th March: Reading Test
MONDAY 17th March: Conventions of Language Test
TUESDAY 18th March: Numeracy Test
WEDNESDAY 19th March - MONDAY 24th March: Final Catch up testing
In preparation for NAPLAN, our class teachers have been undertaking activities to help students become familiar with the format and functionality of the online tests. These preparation activities are not an assessment of student ability and will not be marked.
The public demonstration site (https://www.nap.edu.au/online-assessment/public-demonstration-site) is available to see the types of questions, tools and functions used in the NAPLAN tests.
Further information about NAPLAN is available on the NESA website (https://educationstandards.nsw.edu.au/wps/portal/nesa/k-10/understanding-the-curriculum/naplan/parent-information).
If you have any questions about NAPLAN, please contact Amanda Doyle or Shelly O'Sullivan (Leaders of Pedagogy).

VERITAS
Our Veritas Awards stem from our school motto - ‘Veritas’ - meaning truth. The Veritas Award is awarded to students who have been consistently displaying citizenship, leadership and/or Christian Living. Students receiving a Veritas Award are those students who have displayed our ‘Rules for Living’ in their everyday interactions. We announce our Veritas award recipients at Friday morning assemblies every fortnight.

OPEN CLASSROOMS
This year we are delighted to continue to welcome our parents into our classrooms for the Open Classrooms. Thank you to those parents who were able to join us last week for the Infants Open Classrooms. This term they will be held on the following days from 8:15 - 8:45am.
Primary- Yr3 - Yr6: Friday 7th March
To ensure a successful session, please:
- Respect the timings. Staff and students will be required at the 8.45am morning assembly.
- Respect these sessions are not Parent-Teacher meetings. Teachers will be in the learning spaces to support participation, though will not be expected to answer questions on your child’s academic achievement, growth or wellbeing.
- Remember every day at St Nicholas is an opportunity for a Parent-Teacher Meeting. If you would like to meet with your child's teacher, please reach out to them and arrange a mutually convenient time.
- Respect the privacy and dignity of all students. Enjoy the opportunity to look at your child's learning, though refrain from comparing it to peers.
- Respect the learning spaces. Please understand the learning spaces are fluid and places of work. Our students and staff take great pride in their learning spaces, though also understand learning is not always pretty. Quality learning can be messy.
Respect all staff by only visiting the open spaces of your Infants aged child.
NORMAN NEWS
Norman, our much loved wellbeing dog, is off to a great start to 2025 at St Nicholas, and is currently attending school on Tuesdays and Thursdays. He's already made friends with lots of new Kindy students and has helped many transition happily into school of a morning. Year 1 and Year 2 have had the pleasure of Norman's company during reading groups and he's also been quite interested in helping out in the fairy garden as we endeavour to freshen things up. With the weather being so hot, he headed off to the groomer last week and is now sporting a super trim new haircut. Although he looks quite different, we still think he's a handsome boy!
Just a reminder that all our staff, students and families can continue to support Norman's role at St Nicholas by following the three expectations.
Stay tuned for more updates as the year progresses.

We understand that at times students may need to wear an alternate piece of attire because of an unforeseen circumstance. If this is the case please email your child's class teacher to let them know.
