Years 2, 3 & 4

It is hard to believe that the first term is almost over already!

The 2.3.4 classroom has been very busy engaging in a variety of learning activities across all subjects and have been enjoying getting hands on with some tasks.

A few weeks ago we tested our growth mindsets and our group work skills when we built marshmallow catapults. Students exercised their listen and comprehension skills as they followed the instructions to build the catapult. They then had lots of fun launching smaller marshmallows! After some practice, students attempted to launch their marshmallows into target containers. A big congratulations to Maggie who managed to fire a marshmallow into the furthest target!

In art this term we have been learning about warm and cool colours. We learnt that colours can be separated into groups of warm and cool. Warm colours include reds, oranges, yellows and browns and evoke a range of feelings from warmth and joy to anger and hostility. Cool colours are blues, greens, violets and greys and evoke feelings of calmness and serenity, as well as sadness. Here are some of the wonderful artworks that the class created.

Students of 2.3.4 had a wonderful time with our special guests who came to school to teach us the skills to play touch football. It was amazing to see the smiling faces on the kids as they participated in a range of games that taught us the essential skills needed to play the game. It was also great to see that every student in the class participated in the session even when they thought that touch football wasn't the game for them. All students should feel very proud of themselves for having a go!

A major part of our classroom discussions in the last week has been based on kindness. We have been having big conversations about what kindness looks like not only in our classroom but also in our school and our community. The class have been able to identify the different ways that we can show kindness to the people around us such as helping each other if we are hurt, using kind words and manners when talking to each other, respecting each other's boundaries and belongings, and making sure that we include each other in games and activities. I invite families to have these discussions at home and talk about how we can show kindness to our families as well.
