Literacy

We have done so well with our study of Warhorse.  It has been a major success with the students thoroughly engrossed in the story.  They have learnt so much about the First World War and have expanded their vocabulary and writing as well.  Our literacy study for next term will be Ancient Rome and Greece, which will be amazing!

Numeracy

Our students are in for a major challenge over the next few weeks learning all about Fractions!  It's tough!  There's Numerators, Denominators, Multiples and Factors..... but fractions are all around us and it'd be great if you could point them out when you come across them with your children.  Your car might be half-full (or half-empty, depending whether your are an optimism or a pessamist!) of petrol.  You might have had three eigths of a pizza and someone else had one, so there's haf left.  School might be 5km away by we have already driven 2km, so we are 2/5 into the drive and have 3/5 to go.  I'm sure that you'll be able to come up with many off the cuff.  Tell the students to bring in the examples so we can add them to the work that we are doing.

Inquiry

We are continuing our look at ethics and emotions and the effects that they have on our everyday lives.  We understand that there are times that we can feel frustrated or over-whelmed and we are learning about strategies on how to deal with these situations.  We also are looking at how to appreciate the many great people and things that we have in our lives.

Well-Being

We are focussing on Positive Coping Strategies for situations that arise in our lives and how we can best navigate our lives through these situations in the most productive manner possible.  We have been doing this by being given different theretical situations and asked to provide a negative and a positive reaction to it in front of the class.  This is often very challenging, but on the whole the students seem to get a real lick out of working in this manner.

Until next time, all the best from Mrs. Grant, Mr. Taberner and Mr. Keenan
