Connect: Year 5

This week see's the completion of NAPLAN, WHOHOO! We are so proud of the resilience, organisation and persistence shown by the students throughout this time. They have been practicing their chosen sport in preparation for lightening prem and it's amazing to see how much they have improved within the last few weeks. We were impressed by the positive participation by students in the athletics day.
Reminders:
- Please send your child's library satchel with them to school on Thursdays so they can borrow books to take home.
- Term 1 is extremely hot with high UV rays so we require all students to bring hats and drink bottles.
- Camp medical forms are coming home this week, please complete and send back as soon as possible.
- Camp payments are also available through the app

Camp: This year our camp will be taking place from the 2nd of June till the 4th of June we are lucky enough to be going to a new camp location this year we will be visiting Forest Edge Camp. Information has been sent out and payments are now able to be made Please secure your spot.
Future Learning:
Reading: We are coming to the end of our class novel Runt. To celebrate our achievements in reading we will be watching the movie and comparing and contrasting the text to the movie. The Movie is rated PG so if you would like your child to NOT see the film please email their classroom teacher.
Spelling Mastery: The students are continuing to learn spelling rules during spelling mastery to assist them in becoming accurate spellers. The rules we have learnt so far are 'the y to i rule', 'the doubling rule' and 'the final e rule' to find out more about these have a chat with your child.
Writing: In the coming weeks we will be writing persuasive texts applying what we have learnt about the text structure, persuasive devices and audience.
Maths: We are learning to solve problems involving multiplication of larger numbers by one- or two-digit numbers using factors and the associative property. In the coming weeks we will begin division, students will be explicitly taught the written algorithm and how to represent remainders as fractions and decimals. Students will learn to apply the inverse relationship between multiplication and division. As we move into next term students will find unknown numbers in multiplication and division equations.
Wellbeing: In the coming weeks we will be exploring what stress is and the situations that cause us to feel stressed. Students will identify how their bodies feel when they are stressed and explore strategies to support their emotional regulation in order to apply this to their ready to learn plan.
Inquiry: Our inquiry unit is 'Think Global, Act Local' they will learn about the natural world and how we are changing it and how we can be more sustainable.
