A shorter week to report on in today’s bulletin. We hope all the students enjoyed the extra long weekend and refreshed ready to finish the term. Staff attended a Professional Development Day in Swan Hill on Friday. The keynote speaker was very valuable to listen to and all the sessions staff attended provided great information. Finding out what staff learnt has been great.
Stella went to Swan Hill Tuesday to complete in the Regional Swimming Carnival. Whilst not coming home with any medals, it is a great experience. A big congratulations to Stella for making it to this level.
Our Year 7 and 9 students beginning today, will undertake NAPLAN testing. The information from these tests is important to our school to assess our teaching and learning programs, hence we find it important that all students undertake the tests.
Year 8 students headed off to Surf Camp on this morning. A big thank you to the staff who are giving up their time to accompany them. We hope everyone enjoys the experience and look forward to hearing how it all goes in next week’s bulletin.
Design and Technology:
The Year 8s had fun designing and building 2D cardboard F1 cars. First, they cut out their designs and glued them onto cardboard so the cardboard could be cut into the correct shape. Then, they added some wheels so the cars could roll down a ramp. The Year 8s then used the cars to conduct an experiment to investigate how weight distribution effects downhill rolling performance.
Information Technology:
This term in IT, the Year 8s have been learning how to use spreadsheets to store data, to organise it and display information. They have been practising various features in Microsoft Excel such as formatting headings, sorting and filtering lists, using formulas, and producing graphs.
English - Identity and Self-Determination:
The Year 8 English class is continuing in their study of the themes of 'cultural identity' and 'self-determination' through the 2019 documentary, 'In My Blood It Runs' (currently available on Netflix).
As part of the content students explored the concept of Country and created their own personal Acknowledgements to Country, paying respect to the lands on which we play and go to school. Students have also explored the language of the Dja Dja Wurrung People, and created glossaries with both the Djaara and English translations. The students have embraced this unit with enthusiasm and open hearts, inspiring deep thought and passionate conversations in the classroom!
