Students were thrilled to take part in the Hockey Roadshow once again this year! Lucy and Ella guided students through the basics ofstickhandling, passing, and shooting, making for a fun and engaging session for both our F-2 and 3-6 students.
Beyond learning new skills, students embraced the spirit of teamwork, confidence, and sportsmanship, making the experience both exciting and rewarding.
Thank you to Ella and Lucy for making it a great day!
On Tuesday, the F-2 students explored how to make music, using objects around them. This week’s focus was ‘making a beat’ using household items.
Students inYears 3, 5, 7, and 9 are starting their NAPLAN assessments today, testing their skills in reading, writing, spelling, grammar, and numeracy. The assessments help track progress and provide valuable insights for schools and teachers. While NAPLAN is important, students are encouraged to do their best and approach the tests with confidence. Good luck to all participating!
Literacy:
In Literacy, students have been studying the poem ‘Clancy of the Overflow’ in their Text-Base Unit and they finished off the unit by working in a group or pairs to perform the poem to the class. Students have started lessons within the Word Origin Spelling and Word Study program. Daily lessons focus on multiple layers of word knowledge, including orthography, morphology, semantics and etymology. Students have started a new Talk for Writing unit on Suspense and have been completing their cold task.
5/6 Digital Technologies:
In the last couple of weeks, the Grade 5s and 6s have been enthusiastic students during Digital Technologies. They have been learning how to program and use Sphero robots. So far, they have practiced driving them and have programmed a pre-determined path for the Sphero to take. During the next lesson, they will be learning how to display different things on the Sphero’s LED panels.
5/6 Advisory:
Students have been developing a greater understanding of the Charlton College school values during advisory time. Thus far, students have developed a classroom definition of Honesty and Respect in which we can uphold. This week, students began by looking at a glass of water and write down what it was they seen. A glass half full or a glass half empty? Optimism is the focus of the week!
5/6 Numeracy:
Students in year 5/6 this week have been working on using factors to simplify multiplication calculations. Students have also been investigating common multiples and had a contest on who could find the lowest common multiple first.
