International Women's Day

International Women's Day Breakfast

We continue to forge a wonderful relationship with the Greater Dandenong Council and Springvale Town Hall / Hub. Last Friday we enjoyed a free breakfast for International Women's Day. With 200 people in attendance, we welcomed the words of the guest speakers, Sr Pat Dimick (an alumni member) and Sr Brigid Arthur, from the Brigidine Asylum Seekers Project (BASP), which is one of the charities that Killester supports.

They spoke of the strength of many women they have encountered in their lives and of the need for a calmer and more considered voice to be heard across the world at the moment. The wonderful MCs were Nieve Thomas and Sally Tran (both Year 12 2025 students) - with Nieve speaking of her own personal strength that was gained from her mother's example, and the eventual loss of her when she was thirteen. It was a very moving tribute to her mother, with her sister, Mia, also in attendance (who was undertaking Year 12 in the year they lost their mum).

The Deputy Mayor of the City of Greater Dandenong, Sophie Tan, also spoke of the power of the voice of women and Sally Buick, Principal of Killester College, responded to the words of Pat and Brigid, urging the audience to consider the the need for women to find their voices for change and common sense in today's world.

In 2026, this event will have been running for five years and, each year, it gains a bigger and more diverse audience. Perhaps you could jot it onto your 2026 planning for the first week of March.
