Principal's Report

Dear Parents, Students and Staff,

As we move through Term 1, it has been fantastic to see our school values of Respect, Learning, and Working Together in action across so many aspects of school life.

Our House Swimming Carnival was a great success, with students demonstrating teamwork and sportsmanship throughout the day. Congratulations to Hollows House for taking out the win! Final results were

1st place: Hollows House- 215 points

Equal 2nd Place: Mabo/Walton Houses- 171 points each

4th Place: Freeman House- 158 points

This week, our Year 7 students had an exciting opportunity to attend the Grand Prix at Albert Park. It was wonderful to see student curiosity and enthusiasm.

Our NAPLAN assessments are underway, and I commend our students for their focused and determined approach in completing the set tasks. These assessments provide valuable insights into student learning, and we appreciate the hard work being put in.

International Women’s Day

Thank you to our Student Council Representatives for organising this year’s International Women’s Day. All money raised from the casual clothes day went towards the ‘One Girl’ charity, an Australian charity that supports women around the globe to access education. During lunch, students hosted an IWD trivia, in addition students participated in a letter writing station where over 130 students wrote letters of appreciation to women in their life. The colours observed in the student designed flyer, used the colours of the suffragettes.

The theme for International Women’s Day is “Accelerate Action" this reminds us of the need for urgent and sustained efforts to close the gender gap, advance women's rights, and create a more inclusive society. At Hampton Park Secondary College, we are committed to fostering a culture of respect, learning, and working together—values that align with the spirit of this goal.

It is an opportunity for each of us to recognise the contributions of the women in our school community—our students, staff, families, and leaders—who inspire, lead, and create change every day. Currently at our college, I am fortunate to work with many highly dedicated and inspirational leaders. In fact, 18 of the 25 members of our college leadership are women.

In the wider society barriers remain, and I ask everyone to consider how we can actively contribute to a more inclusive future.

I encourage you all to take a moment this week to acknowledge the significance of International Women’s Day, whether by engaging in discussions, showing appreciation for the women in your life, or learning more about the importance of gender equality.

A huge thank you to the following parents and community members who have nominated for School Council.

· Kakoli Rawat

· Nicole Zderski

· Anthea Bertus

· Toni Poppe

· Luke Delutis

Staff Reps Assistant Principal’s Max Eldridge and Andrea Bellgrove.

Your commitment to supporting our school community is greatly appreciated.

A key event coming up is our Learning Conferences on Tuesday 25th and Wednesday 26th March. This year, we have extended the conferences over two days to provide greater flexibility for families. Attendance at these conferences is expected and will count towards student attendance. Bookings are now available on Compass, and we strongly encourage all families to make an appointment.

Conference hours are as follows:

📅 Tuesday 25th March: 9.00am- 4.00pm

📅 Wednesday 26th March: 12 noon- 7.00pm

Our school production, "Bring It On!" is already off to a fantastic start, with students showing great dedication in rehearsals. A full-day rehearsal is scheduled during the Term 1 holiday break, and we are excited to see the production come to life. Thank you to all dedicated students and staff for their hard work.

Finally, I want to acknowledge all students who are maintaining high levels of attendance. Research shows that consistent attendance is a key characteristic of high-achieving students, helping to build strong understanding and confidence in learning. This is something every student should strive for.

As a reminder, the final day of Term 1 is Friday 4th April, with students being dismissed at 2:30 pm.

Thank you for your ongoing support as we continue working together to create a positive and successful school environment.
