REMINDER

The Information Night for First Eucharist this coming Thursday, 13 March at 6:30pm in the hall.

Shrove Tuesday

Shrove Tuesday is the day before Ash Wednesday and the start of Lent. The word "shrove" comes from the old practice of going to church to confess sins. People would use up rich foods like eggs, butter, and sugar before Lent, when they would fast. That's why pancakes became a popular food for this day. Over time, Shrove Tuesday became a day of fun and feasting before the more serious days of Lent.

Ash Wednesday

Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent. Students in Years 2 to 6 went to Mass. During Mass, they receive ashes on their foreheads. The ashes remind us to be sorry for their mistakes and to follow Jesus. It is a special day to begin thinking about how to be better during Lent.  Students have been reflecting on how they can make a change this Lent.

Guest Speaker and Social Justice Fundraising

This year, we’re thrilled to welcome Peter Hogan (brother of Mr. Paul Hogan) as a guest speaker for our Year 5 and 6 students on Thursday 20 March. Peter is part of the Friends of St Theresa Nazara and works to support a new Pediatrics Treatment Centre and Children’s Ward at St Theresa’s Hospital in Nzara, South Sudan. This hospital helps children in South Sudan. To support Peter’s work, on Harmony Day (21 March) students can wear casual clothes and bring a gold coin donation.  The money we raise will help provide vital healthcare for these children in need.

During Lent, students will also learn about Catholic Social Teachings in their Religious Education lessons. These lessons will focus on compassion, helping others, and making a positive difference.Students have been given a Project Compassion prayer card with QR code for families to make donations during this time of Lent.
