University Headstart Programs

University Headstart Programs offer high-achieving Years 10, 11, and 12 students the opportunity to extend their studies by undertaking university subjects during their final years of high school. This initiative provides an excellent chance to get a head start on a chosen undergraduate course or to explore an area of interest. Upon successful completion of a unit, students can receive advanced standing (credit) for their studies, giving them an advantage when they commence their degree. Balancing university subjects with a full load of school subjects is a significant achievement.

I would like to acknowledge the following four of our Year 12 students:

  • Cullen Fitzgerald has completed the Unit Software Engineering at the University of Queensland and achieved a High Distinction, a mark of 7, which is the highest mark at the university. Congratulations, Cullen!
  • Max Gallagher has also completed the Unit Software Engineering at the University of Queensland and achieved a High Distinction, a mark of 7, which is the highest mark at the university. Congratulations, Max!
  • Ambrose Gonzalez has completed two units at the University of the Sunshine Coast. In Semester 2 last year, he completed the ‘Introduction to Songwriting and Performance’ unit and received a Distinction, which is a mark of 6, the second highest mark at the university. Congratulations, Ambrose!
  • Christian Weston-Kelly has also completed two units at the University of the Sunshine Coast. In Semester 2 last year, he completed the ‘Introduction to Songwriting and Performance’ unit and received a Distinction, which is a mark of 6, the second highest mark at the university. Congratulations, Christian!

For any Year 10 or 11 students interested in this program, please send an email to Mrs Franklin at franklint@marash.qld.edu.au for more information. Several universities offer this opportunity.
