In Week 2 the Year 11 Ancient History class ventured to the Abbey Museum up in Caboolture to deepen our understandings of archaeology and early human civilizations. The museum's vast number of artefacts as well as the resident archaeologist enriched our ideas of how our ancestors lived in ancient times.
After the museum visit, the 16 boys engaged in a simulated 'Egyptian Dig' where we practised methods of excavation including digging, sifting for finer artefacts, recording and then using inferencing skills to determine what happened at the site.
It was a great learning experience as we really got to find out how hard archaeologists have to work to piece together our understanding of how past people lived. This was an important lesson for our following two-year Ancient History course as archaeology studies helps us understand the history. Overall the experience was memorable, and enjoyable and ultimately furthered our knowledge in Ancient History.
