Greetings from Shaun

As we approach the end of Term 1, I would like to thank all of our staff and members of our school community for your support, positivity and contribution across what has been a productive and settled, albeit very busy, start to the year.

A special thank you to those who have volunteered their time throughout the term. From the fete, excursions, the working bee and events, your contribution helps make Northcote Primary School such a great place to learn, play and work.

I want to acknowledge the many ways our community shows up for the school and our students. Whether it’s helping in classrooms, attending events, supporting programs or simply looking out for one another, it all matters. In a time where there is a lot of uncertainty in the world, what stands out is the way our community continues to be kind, caring and inclusive. That is something we should all be really proud of.

Confirmed Dates

We have now confirmed a number of key dates for Term 3.

We have also confirmed our final Curriculum Day for the year, which will take place on Monday the 13th of July, the first day of Term 3.

Our Parent Teacher Conferences will be held in Term 3, Week 2 on Wednesday the 22nd of July.

These dates will continue to be included in the newsletter, however please update your diaries.

School Council Update

We’re very pleased to share that Lucy Sinclair has been appointed as our School Council President, and Alick Weber as our Vice President for the 2026 school year. I look forward to working closely with Lucy and Alick over the year ahead and thank them for stepping into these important roles.

I would also like to acknowledge and thank our outgoing School Council President, Joe Pitt, and Vice President, Ellis Richardson, along with the previous School Council, for their time, commitment and work they have contributed to the school.

We’ve also made some changes to our sub-committee structure for 2026 to better share the workload and better align with our priorities. In previous years, many parents have supported the Community Sub-Committee, which has largely focused on organising fundraising and events. This year, we’ve split this sub-committee into two distinct teams.

The Fundraising Sub-Committee will focus on raising funds for the school through familiar initiatives such as trivia nights, mango drives, tea towels and other similar activities.

The Community (2.0) Sub-Committee will focus on bringing people together, organising opportunities for connection such as working bees and potentially some new events that celebrate our school and strengthen our sense of community.

These sub-committees are a little different from previous years, and we would love to see parents and carers get involved in whichever area best suits their interests.

The first sub-committee meeting of the new group is scheduled for Wednesday the 13th of May, get in contact with the office if you would like to get involved.

 Fete

What a fantastic day our school fete was this year. The weather was kind to us, the turnout was incredible, the entertainment brought great energy, and the food was a real highlight. More than anything though, it was the atmosphere across the day that stood out. There was a genuine sense of people enjoying being together, connecting and taking pride in being part of the Northcote Primary School community. It really felt like one of those special days that captures what our school is all about.

A large part of this is thanks to the incredible work of our fete coordinators, Jo and Sarah, along with the hundreds of volunteers who contributed in the lead up, on the day and during pack up. There is so much work that goes on behind the scenes to make a day like this happen, and it simply wouldn’t be possible without the time, energy and commitment of our community. Every contribution, big or small, played a part in making the day such a success.

A special thank you to our Grade 5 and 6 students who volunteered their time to help run stalls and support the event. I’ve had consistent feedback that they were outstanding, showing initiative, responsibility and a genuine willingness to help.

We’d like to acknowledge the following students for their contribution: Sofia, Ebony, Zosia, Nell, Peyton, Rosa, Charlie, Kaan, Olive, Maya, Rose, Matilda, Indie, Sylvie, Davie, Louis, Belle, Matilda, Felix, Leo, Marni, Alvy, Jennifer, Mia, Ana, Maddie, Angel, Peta, Josie, Lyla, Ave, Marley, Juliette, Indie and Rach.

We are incredibly proud of the way they represented our school and contributed to such a successful day.
