TeachersTerm 2 Overview

Auslan

(Michelle Rees)

In Term 2, students will develop their communication skills by revising greetings, simple questions, and fingerspelling. They will explore how Auslan sentence structure differs from spoken English, with a focus on its visual and spatial nature. Using these topics, students will create and sign their own short sentences, building confidence in expressing themselves and understanding others in Auslan. Students will also explore the book I Am Deaf by Jennifer Moore-Mallinos, which shares the story of a hearing-impaired ten-year-old, to support their understanding of Deaf culture.

Performing Arts

(Jodie Davis)

In Term 2, students will build on their musical foundations through singing, movement and instrumental play. They develop greater accuracy in pitch matching and perform simple rhythmic patterns using body percussion and untuned instruments. Students explore movement and simple dance to express ideas and moods, while also learning about Carnival of the Animals by Camille Saint-Saëns, using the music to inspire creative movement and storytelling. They listen and respond to different pieces from the work, identifying how music can represent animals and feelings. Through these activities, students strengthen their confidence, creativity and understanding of how music can be created and shared.

Visual Arts

(Grace Tyrrell)

In Term 2, students will delve deeper into colour theory, line, shape, and space in order to enhance the artworks in which they create. Students will develop skills in the areas of printmaking, collage, modelling, textiles, drawing and painting. Some activities include an Indian inspired terracotta necklace, a NAIDOC week inspired weaving circle, an African Kente cloth collage, and a printmaking artwork based on the book ‘The Best Beak in Boonaroo Bay’. In addition to this, students will have regular opportunities for art appreciation, whereby they will discuss their own work and that of others.

Physical Education (P.E)

(Chris Steele)

In Term 2, students will continue to focus on developing and refining running, dodging and sequenced movement skills with correct action and a variety of speeds. Through fitness activity and games, they will engage in moderate to vigorous activities. Students will explain the contribution rules and procedures make to the safe conduct of games and activities. Students will also concentrate on skills specific to overarm throwing, catching, football, soccer and be involved in a modified School Cross Country Program.
