Whole School Achievement
Sustainability Conference, Inter School Sport Results and Awards
On the 26th of March, nine students from Western Port Secondary attended the Mornington Peninsula Student Environmental Leadership conference. These students ranged from year 7-12 and consisted of several CARE Captains and Green Team members. These two groups take on environmental responsibilities within our school. Wren and Phoenix helped Mr. Sanderson explain some of the work happening in the school to students from four other schools. Some of these schools are now building on our ideas and our students learnt a lot from other student’s experiences and efforts. The conference creates space for emerging leaders in the environment movement to learn about collaboration, capacity building and learning to work with people with power to benefit their schools’ environmental practices. It was a great day out showcasing creativity and taking small steps towards big projects.

Western Port Secondary College continues to strengthen its connection with the local community through sport.
Principal Mr Quinn, alongside Mr Henaghen (Sport Coordinator), attended the annual School Sport Victoria Awards recently held at the MCG. This event celebrates schools, students, teachers and organisations who excel in sport and make a positive contribution to school sport across Victoria.
WPSC was proudly recognised with the Outstanding School and Community Partnership Award, acknowledging:
Strong student participation in sport
Meaningful partnerships with local primary schools and community organisations
Leadership, coaching and officiating opportunities for both students and staff
Over the past two years, students and staff have supported division athletics, assisted local primary schools with sports days, officiated interschool competitions, and promoted inclusive sporting opportunities across the college. This commitment has also seen record numbers of students apply for SPORT Engagement Captain roles, many inspired by their involvement in community‑based programs.
The award recognises a whole‑school effort to ensure sport is inclusive, accessible and meaningful, helping students build confidence, leadership skills and, in many cases, continue their sporting pathways beyond school.

Note: Year 7 interschool sport has been moved to Term 2 due to the stop‑work date.
