Principal Update

Womin Djeka – Hello and welcome to another edition of the ‘THE WESTERN PORT WORD’, our college newsletter that will continue to keep our community informed and connected throughout the year.
As we wrap up a fantastic first term, I would like to take the opportunity to celebrate the many achievements, events and the strong sense of community that have shaped the beginning of 2026 at our school.
It has been inspiring to see our 2026 School Captains, Lara Bassingthwaighte and Alex Davis, along with Vice Captains, Addison Wakeman and Liam Ricard, leading by example through their learning and engagement in all aspects of school life. This term, they have represented our college with pride, including supporting visits from a group of 16 school leaders from New Zealand who were keen to learn from our work and approach.
Our Year 7 students have transitioned smoothly into the college and their new Year 7 Hub, embracing the opportunities that come with joining the Western Port family. This week, they also enjoyed a very successful Year 7 Camp at Peninsula Outdoors, building friendships, confidence and connection.
Our College Open Night was another highly successful event, with over 250 guests from our feeder primary schools attending. Visitors were particularly interested in our deliberate and evidence-informed approaches to teaching and learning, including our focus on the Science of Learning. Structured routines and consistent teaching practices that support automaticity and reduce cognitive load continue to be a defining feature of our work. This event reinforced our growing reputation as a school of choice within the community which is something we are all very proud of.
In the sporting arena, our students continue to excel, proudly representing the college at interschool, district and state levels. A huge thank you to our Sport Coordinator, Jamie Henaghen, who recently accepted the Outstanding Community Partnerships Award at the 2025 Victorian School Sports Awards held at the MCG. This recognition is a strong endorsement of the positive impact our students have in supporting participation, inclusion and enjoyment in school sport across the wider community.
I hope you all enjoy a safe and restful Easter break with family and friends. We look forward to welcoming students back to normal classes on Monday, 20 April.
Yours sincerely,
Chris Quinn
Principal
