Performing Arts
It has certainly been a busy, but creative and inspiring term for Donvale Primary School's music makers!
Students across the school have been developing their rhythmic skills, building their knowledge and experimenting with sounds.
Prep students have begun exploring rhythms with untuned percussion instruments, while our older students have been learning body percussion patterns, combining elements and patterns to create new and interesting sounds.
Grade 1/2 students have been busy composing! They wrote their own rhythmic patterns using stick notation, and created body percussion to go with their rhythms. Then, they teamed up with a partner, teaching their partner their pattern, and putting them together to make a longer musical work! Performing these to their peers in the Music room has been a real highlight!
Grade 3/4 students have been learning the ukulele! They have been developing their technique for holding and playing their ukuleles to make the best sounds possible. They are building their bank of chords they know how to play, and are excited to start putting these chords together to make songs!
Our Grade 5/6 students have been dipping their toes into the world of Bucket Drumming (Many thanks to Bunnings Warehouse for the generous donation of some quality buckets), discovering how they can make a variety of sounds with their hands and buckets by playing them in different ways and places. There are also some budding singers and songwriters in this cohort! Students could put their creativity on display, composing their own lyrics and creating their own version of an existing song.
