The Season of Easter - 50 Days!

When we think of Easter, we often picture one joyful Sunday filled with alleluias, lilies and chocolate bunnies. But in the Catholic Church, Easter isn’t just one day, it’s a whole season. In fact, the Easter Season lasts 50 days and that’s no accident. Many events take place during these 50 days, a key event is the Walk to Emmaus.

This Gospel recount is one of the most well known Easter events. It is the story of two disciples traveling from Jerusalem to Emmaus. They are discouraged after Jesus’ death and without recognising him, Jesus joins them on the road. Seeing their sadness, Jesus explains through Scripture that the Messiah had to suffer before entering glory. Later, they invite Jesus to stay with them and it is when Jesus blesses and breaks the bread that the disciples’ eyes are opened and they recognise him. Jesus then disappears, leaving them filled with renewed faith and hope.

It is important to note that the location of Emmaus was uncertain and symbolises that ‘Emmaus’ is everywhere - every person’s life journey is ‘Emmaus’. Jesus is walking with each of us, always. So with a few weeks still left of Easter, can you notice Jesus walking ‘Emmaus’ with you?

Strengthening the Link Between Healthy Eating and Education

Healthy eating isn’t just a lifestyle choice — it’s an academic advantage. This week, our SRC Students have been educating our students about National Healthy Lunchbox Day!

Healthy eating directly supports students’ ability to learn. Balanced meals keep blood sugar steady, which helps maintain concentration throughout the school day. Nutrient‑rich foods — especially those containing omega‑3s, whole grains and antioxidants — boost brain development, memory and problem‑solving skills. Consistent, slow‑release energy from whole foods also leads to calmer behaviour and better emotional regulation, reducing classroom disruptions. Overall, well‑nourished children experience fewer headaches, less fatigue and fewer stomach issues, helping them attend school more regularly and participate more fully.

So….what makes up the perfect lunchbox?

Many health professionals suggest the Pick and Mix Model for the perfect Lunch Box. This includes 1 serving of fruit, 2 servings of vegetables, 1x dairy/calcium item, a main protein meal and a serving of grain/cereal + water. See one poster example below.
