Creating Futures Together

2024  Principal's Report

As we conclude Term 3, I want to take a moment to reflect on our recent achievements and share some important updates with our school community.

Learning & Wellbeing Conferences (Week 7)

I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to all our families for their active participation. The transition to Webex for these interviews was smooth, thanks in no small part to your adaptability and feedback. Your responses through the Compass Insights Survey have been invaluable, and we appreciate your input as we continually strive to enhance our engagement practices. The feedback results for Semester 1 and 2 are below.

Division Athletics (Week 8)

Division Athletics event at Casey Sports Fields was a great success. Congratulations to our organising staff and the student athletes who represented our school with great pride. We are thrilled to share that our College secured second place overall based on aggregate points and there are numerous WHSC students progressing to the next level of competition. Well done to our Sports Coordinators, Kerrie Lay and Sally Pryde, our supporting staff on the day and our students.

Year 7 Health Minds Program (Weeks 7-10)

In our ongoing efforts to support student wellbeing, the Year 7 Healthy Minds Program is progressing well. This initiative focuses on preventative psychological strategies, and we were pleased to see a strong turnout at the recent parent information session. Your support in fostering a healthy mindset in our students is greatly appreciated.

School Attendance

Attendance remains a crucial aspect of student success, and we have noted that a significant number of students have accumulated 20 or more days of absence this year. We urge families to update the Compass portal with accurate reasons for absences and complete the extended absence form when necessary. This ensures we maintain accurate records and can provide the best support for our students.

Indigenous Garden (Week 9)

As part of the College’s Aboriginal Content Curriculum and Intercultural Understanding initiatives, Year 9 students designed and created an Indigenous Garden next to the Science Block. Student also created an Acknowledgement of Country which will be embedded as part of our practice to celebrate the traditional custodians of the local land. The final touch to the garden was a plaque install this week of the Acknowledge of Country. We look forward to marking this occasion next term.

Wellbeing – RU OK Day (Week 9)

Thursday marked RU OK Day, an important occasion dedicated to encouraging open conversations about mental health. It serves as a reminder of the importance of checking in with each other and supporting those around us. Activities for classroom and during recess/lunch were organised for students in promotion of the day. We hope the day inspired meaningful discussions and reinforced our commitment to wellbeing.

Progress Reports (Week 10)

Term 3 Progress Reports will be released in Week 10. These reports will provide a reflection of student progress in relation to student learning behaviours and academic achievement and hopefully, students have already begun to act on the feedback received during parent-teacher interviews.

Unit 4 Students

Best of luck to our senior students as they approach the completion of Unit 4 studies and prepare for exams. Remember, formal classes conclude in Week 2 of Term 4, and we will celebrate their secondary journey at WHSC with a Celebration Assembly in Week 1.

2025 Planning

Work is also continuing for the development of our 2025 timetable. We aim to provide students and families with course and subject confirmation for 2025 in Term 4.

As we approach the holiday period, we wish you all a relaxing and safe break. We look forward to welcoming everyone back for

Term 4.

Kind regards,

WHSC Principal Team
