FLL Robotics Challenge
Congratulations to our first ever teams to compete in the FIRST Lego League Challenge competition. Students in the Robotics Club have been learning to code and build robots using Lego Spike Prime kits since the beginning of the year. The challenge began in August when the mission models and mat arrived from Denmark ready for assembly. Team members then had 6 weeks to design, code, and test their solutions to complete as many missions as possible.
Thirteen students travelled to the Coburg Regional Tournament on Thursday 17th October to represent the school, split into two teams. Both teams scored over 90 points in the first two rounds, completing multiple missions. Achieving consistency was a challenge for all teams in the tournament, with small changes in starting positions or setups causing even well-prepared solutions to go haywire. Students were testing and fine tuning their code even in the final minutes of the competition. UHS Green suffered heart-breaking technical issues in the final round and could not show off the improvements they had made on the day. UHS Red finished with their best run of the tournament, ending in 3rd place for the Robot Game on 150 points.
The Robotics Club has learnt a lot from our first experience with the FLL Challenge and will continue to meet in Term 4 to work with some new materials and kits.
