H&PE – Wheel Talk Incursion

In Week 3 of this term, the Year 11 PE students had a visit from WheelTalk Victoria. Students had the opportunity to play wheelchair basketball and learn about inclusion and disability in sports.

The facilitator, Peter, who is an amazing role model for disabled athletes, talked about the importance of making sports accessible for everyone and how much sport has impacted his life in a positive way.

By playing basketball in wheelchairs, students got a feel for the skill and strength it takes to play as an athlete with a disability. They were also able to gain an understanding of how much more difficult it is to play sport in a wheelchair.

Students left with a better appreciation and respect for wheelchair athletes, and why inclusion is so important in both sport and life in general.
