Book Week Leaders: Term 3 Leadership Initiative

Book Week Leaders

We are the book week leaders: Mabel, Cara, Liza, Jade, Georgie, Lottie and Aleisha. This term, Book Week was celebrated in Week 6. During Book Week, we had lots of tasks to complete such as visiting the Junior classes and reading them stories to celebrate the amazing stories that were shortlisted this year. We also helped organise the Book Week Assembly and Parade, which was an absolute highlight of our term!

Prep Leaders (Georgie, Lottie, Jade)

We read the Prep students the story, ‘Bear and Duck are Friends!’ It is a book about two main characters: Duck, who loves trying new things and Bear, the complete opposite, who is scared of trying new things. Bear and Duck are very close friends, however, a problem arises when Duck wants to take Bear to bring a friend day at a dance class. In the end, despite being nervous, Bear ends up going and has a wonderful time dancing with his best friend. At the end of the book, Bear and Duck prepare to go to the next 'bring a friend' day and try another new activity. When we finished reading the story, we set the preps to work drawing Bear and Duck trying a new activity! Everyone really enjoyed the visit!

Year One Leaders (Liza, Cara, Mabel)

Throughout Term 3, the book week leaders worked with the Junior School to create fun and memorable times. Liza, Cara and Mabel created an activity on the book “Can You Teach A Fish To Climb A Tree?”. It was about animals and creatures doing funny and strange things. After we read them the story they had to draw an animal or creature doing something weird or unexpected, like drawing a fish climbing a tree. The message was that anyone can do anything that they put their mind to. When everyone had completed their drawings we made a very difficult decision (because the year ones are true artists), and decided on four winners. The drawings are now showcased outside the Deputy Principal's office.

Year Two Leaders (Aleisha & Olivia)

We visited the Year Two students for our Book Week Activity. We read a 2024 shortlisted story to them called, 'The Concrete Garden'. It's a story about lots of kids who live in a huge apartment building in the city. They grab a box of chalk and create a concrete garden on the footpath. A picture of it is sent all over the world, spreading joy and love. After reading the book, we headed outside and gave the students lots of chalk for them to design their own concrete garden! It was great, and we were really impressed by their creative chalk pictures!

We were so grateful we got to experience Book Week as a whole school and we can’t wait for 2025! We would also like to say a huge thank you to Mrs Harrison for helping us organise this initiative.
