Year 5/6 Camp

CAMP ADANAC 2024 REFLECTIONS

Year 5/6 had an unforgettable time at Camp Adanac during our three-day adventure! From the moment we arrived, the excitement was palpable as we embraced a variety of activities that challenged us physically and mentally. Whether it was navigating the ropes course, canoeing on the lake, or tackling team-building exercises, we worked together, encouraging each other every step of the way. The camp allowed us to strengthen our bonds as a group, fostering new friendships and creating lasting memories. Here are some recounts from students, sharing their highlights and personal experiences from this incredible camp!

Ruby:

We arrived at school and headed to the tennis courts. Excited conversations buzzed around the 5/6 level, and the sound of suitcases rolling was constant as each person arrived. Our cheeks hurt from all the smiling, and our faces were stuck in grins as we ran around the tennis courts, taking photos with friends and family. Everyone was too excited to stay still, and our heads were full of questions like, “Who's in my cabin?” “Who won the camp booklet design?” and “What's the food like?” Everything changed when the bus pulled up to the gate of ADANAC CAMP!

Sebi:

Camp was so fun! We did many activities and ate a lot of yummy food. On the first day, I had canoeing, aqua ponding, and thunder hockey. After our activities, we enjoyed trampolines and cage soccer. On the second day, we did flying fox, archery, and hut building. On the third day, we started packing to go on the bus. We finished off with the photo hunt, camp cooking, and low ropes. I had the best time ever at Camp Adanac.

Olivia:

I thought camp was so fun, and one of my favourite activities was canoeing because it was my first time doing it, and it was exciting to ride around. My favourite part was when my group played cage soccer because it was fun to compete against others I had never played with before. On the first night, I fell asleep very late and only had two hours of sleep before waking up. The second night, I fell asleep earlier and had a better rest. On the second day, I tried the flying fox! It was amazing to go over the lake and look down, though I bumped into a tyre wheel at the end, and Mrs. Cetrola said it was the most dramatic bump she had ever seen. I had a great time at ADANAC.

Anabel:

The 2024 5/6 camp will always be one of my favourite highlights of this year! I started off the day on the school tennis courts, feeling many mixed emotions as I arrived. Suitcases were everywhere, and conversations filled the air. Before I knew it, we were on the bus heading to camp. As the days flew by, my group got to the two activities I was most looking forward to: canoeing and the intense races, and I also really enjoyed the flying fox. The view from the zipline, above a small lake, was amazing. My favourite free-time activity was definitely cage soccer because it got intense, and I even learned some new moves. Another favourite was the Gaga pit, where most of the year 5/6s gathered and played. Although the rules were confusing at first, I got used to them and even won a game. Camp was an amazing experience where I tried new food, learned new things, and discovered new skills. Most importantly, I spent time with friends, grew closer to people I wasn’t as close with before, and had lots of fun.

Makayla:

I made so many memories this year at camp. When I first heard we were going to Adanac, my heart started racing. My older sister had visited the camp when she was in year 5 and had told me all about her experience. There were many new activities we were encouraged to try, like canoeing and hut building. Canoeing was definitely my favourite activity, with laughter and happiness swirling around our group. This year, the food really stood out to me because of how good it was. You could tell how much care the cooks put into each meal. On Tuesday afternoon, I was so excited for the waterslide. I was slightly nervous but eager to try it. As I was about to slide down, I realised how long it was. Reaching the end and walking up the giant hill, I reflected on the thrill of the slide.

Estelle:

This year's camp was a blast, and we had so much fun doing the activities. Canoeing was my favourite, especially the intense race at the end. As soon as I touched the paddle, I was in the winning zone. The water was cold, but the fountain was within range, and the instructor told us to go through it. I looked at my partner, and we were off. The race was tight as we swerved right and left. The water felt like ice, and I wished we didn’t have to go through it. By the time we got to shore, I was soaked but ready for a nice dinner. The food was good, though we had to sit in a specific arrangement, as Mrs. Cetrola said, “Date night.” The lines were long, but it was worth it; the pasta was my favourite. My top highlight was playing Gaga ball, a game where everyone participates. This camp has given me so many memories with my friends and other students, and Adanac is truly a wonderful place.

David:

Camp this year was so fun, and I enjoyed everything about it, except the food, though I did like the little strips of pasta mixed with cheese and garlic bread. I also liked both desserts and the popcorn for the movies. I just wanted to be active. For example, I liked all the activities: the flying fox and the water slide. The flying fox was fun because you went fast, high over a lake, and you could do a celebration or other movements. My other favourite activity was the water slide because I love sliding down on the mat and splashing into the water. I enjoyed feeling the water and all the bumps as I went down the slide. I liked the free time activities which were cage soccer, foosball and table tennis.

Bridget:

Adanac Camp 2024 was unforgettable. Between the activities and cabins, the whole experience was fun and exciting. My cabin was incredibly lucky to be together, and we formed new friendships that will last forever. The activities were fantastic. We had the opportunity to do many things, such as camp cooking, flying fox, canoeing, archery, and even the optional waterslide during free time on Tuesday. The bus ride was loud and wild, but also fun and exciting. We were all eager for the first day, excited to find out about our cabin and activity groups. Upon arrival, we had an introduction from our Adanac leader, Cameron, who explained the rules. The activities on the first day were great! I participated in Aqua Ponding, where we studied different underwater bugs and assessed the quality of the lake, and the Photo Hunt. The second day was just as exciting, with my group enjoying the flying fox, canoeing, camp cooking, and many other fun activities. The food was exceptional, and day three included hut building and archery, which I won by hitting the noodle twice. The drive home was once again loud but quiet at times as everyone was tired after three full days away from home. Getting off the bus and seeing our parents’ welcoming faces was a relief. Adanac was a Year 6 camp to remember, with memories that will stay with us forever.

Amelia:

Camp Adanac 2024 will probably be the highlight of the year for 5/6! We arrived full of anticipation on the tennis courts, the air thick with excitement. After a long wait, we embarked on the bus journey full of noise and laughter, everyone excited and eager. One hour and three minutes later, we pulled up outside Camp Adanac! From the tour with our camp leader, Cameron, to finding out our cabins and choosing our beds, the first hour at Adanac was enough to show that it was going to be an amazing three days! My group started with the Photo Hunt—an incredible way to get to know the camp. At afternoon tea, we had our first taste of the Camp Adanac kitchen staff’s food, which was brilliant. That was just the beginning of our adventure at Adanac!

Celeste:

This year's camp was a blast, from the bus ride there to the activities and cabins. When we arrived, I couldn’t wait to find out which cabin I was in. I ended up with my three friends, Macie, Liesel, and Olga. We shared our bathrooms with other cabins, but that was fine, even though the shower door broke before I got in. My activity group was great, including Macie, Madeline, Makayla, and Darcy. The Photo Hunt and camp cooking are memories I'll never forget, especially when I slipped and fell. Another highlight was playing UNO with Olga on her bunk and with everyone in my cabin—I even won. The camp food was delicious. In archery, when I hit the noodle (which gives you fifteen points), I was so proud of myself. This camp was amazing, and even though I didn’t get much sleep, I became closer with some people and made lifelong memories.
