Visual Arts

The art room has been a very busy place this term. We are putting the finishing touches on a variety of art pieces ready for our Art Show in term 4. More details are to come.  It will be a must-see event and a highlight in the Williamstown Primary School calendar. A big thank you to the many people helping out behind the scenes to make this event amazing!

The Grade Preps have continued to work with texture using wool to create colourful flowers. They have thoroughly enjoyed the relaxing action of winding wool onto flower shaped cardboard.

The Grade 1’s are continuing to work on pieces to add to our botanical display. This week we are working on creating bottle brush trees. We are using stamping techniques to achieve a unique result. Next week we will add the leaves to our beautiful blooms.

The Grades 2’s are putting the finishing touches on their fairy gardens. They have been very resourceful when choosing the materials used and have enjoyed the creative process.

The Grade 3’s are working on a very special piece of art representing our lovely Jawbone Flora and Fauna Reserve. They are using a limited colour palette with lots of texture and detail to interpret this amazing natural environment.

The Grade 4’s, 5’s & 6’s have been introduced to the art of an American artist called Keith Haring. We used simple shape, colour and form to create unique pieces of art. The Grade 4’s used aluminium foil to create 3D sculptures of simple stick figures. The 5/6’s have made large figures using the Keith Haring graffiti style.

All grades have also been busy working on their Crazy Camel pictures when they have completed their core art pieces.

Warm Regards,

Marcia Evans

Physical Education

Biweekly Physical Education Curriculum Highlights

Prep: Our youngest students are focusing on running, jumping, and combining these skills to enhance their overall motor coordination and physical agility. This unit helps them build a strong foundation for future physical activities.

Year 1 & 2: Pupils are diving into an advanced exploration of effort, space, and time, learning how to control their movements with varying speeds and levels of energy. These activities foster a deeper understanding of how their bodies move through different spaces, laying the groundwork for more complex physical skills.

Grade 3 & 4: The spotlight is on invasion games with a focus on hockey. Students are honing their dribbling, passing, and teamwork skills, while also learning the strategic elements of the game. This unit aims to boost their confidence and cooperation on the field.

Grade 5/6: Continuing with our inclusive games unit, students are exploring adapted sports, including adapted basketball and seated volleyball. These activities emphasize inclusion and adaptability, allowing students to understand different abilities and how sports can be modified to ensure everyone can participate.

Sports Update

Next Tuesday, September 10th, we have an exciting day ahead as 18 of our talented students will represent Willy Primary at the Hobsons Bay Division Track and Field event at Newport. This is a fantastic opportunity for our students to showcase their athletic skills and hard work against other schools in the division. We wish all of our athletes the very best of luck—compete with pride, give it your all, and most importantly, enjoy the experience! Your dedication and effort have already made the entire school community proud, and we’re cheering you on every step of the way!

Warm Regards,
