From the Principal

Principal: Mathew Montebello

Dear Families,

Class Structure 2025

Term three traditionally sees schools across the state commence planning for the following school year.

This has been no different for Willy Primary, as the school leadership team, supported by key Department staff, have been working through financial and staffing models.

Key planning elements involve school enrolments, staffing and funding for all learning programs.

Information regarding the school’s class structure for 2025 will be communicated shortly. This does not include the school’s staffing list, which is communicated in the later part of term four each year.

Year 2 Sleepover - Thursday 5th September

The time has arrived for our grade 2 students, as they prepare for their school sleepover tonight. This is part of the school’s camp program and a great opportunity for our Willy Kids to have their first school camp experience, while in a location and environment that they are very familiar with. A big thank you to our staff and parent helpers for supporting this program. Without your support events like this couldn't take place.

School Disco - Thursday 19th September

Joel and the disco committee are in full swing as the countdown to the school disco has commenced. The disco is one of the school’s longest standing traditions, with the themed event often being listed by ex-Willy Kids as their all time favourite memory. A big thank you to DJ Joel and his grade 5/6  disco committee for the work they have undertaken. We can't wait to dance the night away, and to see our preps enjoy their first disco.

Important Note: Just a reminder to all parents that students will not be dismissed from the event unless their parent/guardian is there to pick them up. Can we please ask parents/carers to remain behind the bollards to allow the required space.

Inaugural Chess Tournament

Tuesday saw a group of 16 Willy Kids participate in the inaugural Williamstown PS and St Mary’s PS chess tournament. The tournament saw 32 students (16 per school) undertake 5 games each in a round robin format. Not only did the students from both schools display outstanding sportsmanship but the chest games themselves were played at an outstanding level. A big thank you to James Howat from St Mary’s for organising the event and to St Mary’s for hosting our Willy Kids. We are hopeful of continuing to build upon this event, and lifting the profile of chess.

Parents & Carers Opinion Survey

I would like to thank all parents/carers that completed the annual Parents & Carers Opinion Survey. The information collected in this survey is essential for short and long term planning. The time taken to complete the survey is much appreciated. We are hoping to provide an opportunity for families to provide further feedback on the information provided later in term 4.

Fathers day Luncheon - Friday 20th September

Information regarding our inaugural Father’s Day luncheon has been distributed to all families and included in this newsletter. Building upon the great success of the Mother’s Day luncheon, the event looks to connect dads within the school community, while raising money for our school’s library program. We encourage all dads to get along.

Art Show October 18th & 20th October

Arguably the second biggest event on the Friends of Willy Calendar, the School’s art show looks to showcase the amazing artwork of our Willy Kids while raising funds to go towards the projects that are part of the school’s buildings and grounds master plan.

WOW, Wonders of Williamstown sees Willy Kids draw on key features of Williamstown for inspiration.

The event is split into an adults only night on the Friday and a community event on the sunday. So note the dates in your calendar. Full details of the event can be found below.

Year 1 Swimming

We wish our grade 1 students all the best as today they commenced their swimming program

Open Afternoon - Thursday 12th September

Next Thursday across the school we will be hosting our term 3 open day from 3:15-4:00pm This is a great opportunity for parents/carers to visit their child/s classroom where a range of work pieces will be on display to celebrate. We look forward to seeing our families on the day. A reminder that the term three Willy Learning Challenge projects will also be on display in the PE hall.

Prep Breakfast - Wednesday 18th September

Held in the last week of this term our prep students will celebrate the term with their annual prep breakfast. This event is the first stage of our whole school camping program, which looks to build independence. It will be a big final week for our preps with their breakfast followed by their first school disco on the Thursday and their first footy day on the last day of term.

Warm regards,

Mat
